Dixon was released by Minnesota, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Dixon was active for three games last season with the Vikings, but didn't record a tackle. He became expendable after the Vikings took a cornerback with their 2015 first-round draft pick.

Dixon was waived by the Bears on Tuesday. Dixon was signed by the Bears off the Vikings' practice squad in early-September, but was unable to make much of an impact on defense, recording just three tackles (two solo) in five games with the team. He'll have to pass through waivers unclaimed before becoming a free agent.

The Bears signed Dixon off the Vikings' practice squad Monday, Jeff Dickerson of ESPNChicago.com reports. Dixon, a seventh-round pick from Baylor, was cut by the Cowboys at the end of the training camp, before latching on with the Vikings on their practice squad. He'll provide the Bears with some depth at the safety spot, but figures to be a weekly inactive for the team for the time being.

Dixon didn't play Saturday after he was late for Friday's walk-through, the Dallas Morning News reports. It's been an up-and-down preseason for the seventh round pick, but provided that he's learned his lesson he should be able to get back to the business of earning a roster spot.

Dixon, who racked up 12 tackles in Thursday's preseason opener, left the game in the fourth quarter to be checked for a possible concussion, Rowan Kavner of DallasCowboys.com reports. Dixon said he felt fine after the game, but he may be held out of a couple of practices as a precaution. He certainly made an impact Thursday and may have solidified his spot on the roster, but his preseason snaps will likely dwindle as the Cowboys' secondary gets healthier. Don't expect him to be much more than a special teams player come week 1.

Cowboys selected Baylor S Ahmad Dixon with the No. 248 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft. Dixon (6-foot, 212) made 38 starts for the Bears, earning first-team All-American accolades as a senior and finishing his career with four interceptions. He primarily played a linebacker-safety hybrid position, attacking downhill with aggressiveness versus the run. Although Dixon lacks elite athleticism (4.64 forty, 32-inch vertical), he's likely to be an asset on special teams and eventually in sub-packages. There is an outside chance Dixon could grow into an every-down strong safety.
