The NFL suspended wide receiver Ace Sanders 10 games Monday for a substance abuse policy violation, according to the Florida Times-Union. Sanders, who was released by the Jaguars in July, was suspended for the first four games of 2014 for failing a substance abuse test, aw well.

Sanders has impressed at OTAs, but he'll likely have to compete for a roster spot, according to ESPN.com's Mike DiRocco. Sanders drew just eight targets in 12 games last season, after catching 51-of-85 targets for 484 yards (5.7 YPT) and a touchdown in his rookie season. He'll head into his third year competing for roles as a slot receiver and punt returner, but second-year players Allen Robinson, Marqise Lee and Allen Hurns are expected to lead the Jags' wideout group.

Sanders appeared in 12 games in 2014, catches six passes for 55 yards and serving as Jacksonville's primary punt returner. The second-year South Carolina product essentially fell out of the receiver rotation and was primarily used as a return man. He didn't experience much success, however, as he averaged just 7.1 yards per punt return and had no return of longer than 23 yards. Sanders is under contract next season, but his punt return job could be in jeopardy after a lackluster 2014.

Sanders will remain as the Jaguars' punt returner despite his 6.6 yards per return average, the Florida Times Union reports. Head coach Gus Bradley is confident that Sanders can make plays as a returner and will stick with him as the team's specialist heading into Sunday's game against the Bengals.

Sanders had two catches for 12 yards in Sunday's loss to the Steelers. He also returned three punts for 14 yards. Sanders is primarily utilized as a punt returner, but he was unable to get anything going Sunday, as his longest return went for only seven yards. A shifty runner, Sanders has gamebreaking potential as a slot receiver, but he's unlikely to see many snaps, particularly once Cecil Shorts (hamstring) and Marqise Lee (hamstring) are back in the mix.

Sanders will be active Sunday against the Steelers and will return punts. The shifty receiver is back after serving a four-game ban for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy. He'll return punts, a duty he performed at times last season, in addition to being available as a reserve receiver.

Sanders is expected to suit up Sunday against Steelers, the Jaguars' official site reports. Given the team's injuries at wideout, Sanders -- who spent the first four games of the season suspended for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy -- is a candidate to immediately step in as the Jaguars' No. 3 wideout on Sunday, behind Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns.

The Jaguars have received a one-week roster exemption for Sanders, whose suspension for violating the NFL substance abuse policy has ended, the Florida Times-Union reports. Sanders can start practicing with Jags on Wednesday, though it remains to be seen if he will be added to the team's active roster in advance of Sunday's game against the Steelers. A decision on that front is presumably tied to Sanders' level of conditioning, but once the wideout is up to speed, he's a candidate to bolster both the Jags' depth at wideout, as well as the team's punt return unit.

Sanders (suspension) missed the team's first three preseason games but played Thursday and returned punts in the second half, the Florida Times-Union reports. "It's great to see him back there,'' coach Gus Bradley. "He creates things. He makes things happen.'' After Tandon Doss (ankle) left the game in the second quarter, Sanders stepped in and handled punt return duties, logging returns of 13, 31 and 23 yards in the second half. While Sanders will likely take over punt return duties when he returns from his four-game suspension, the Jaguars have not announced who will return punts in the meantime. Doss, if healthy, is probably the leading candidate, but Will Blackmon and Mike Brown are also contenders.

Sanders (suspension) reported to Jaguars' camp Sunday, the Florida Times-Union reports. Sanders will spend Sunday working on his conditioning after being away from the Jaguars until now while attending to a personal issue. Should he rebuild his fitness quick enough, Sanders could feature in Jacksonville's final preseason game, but the wideout will still be suspended for the opening four games of the regular season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
