Ravens waived WR Aaron Mellette and OLB Adrian Hamilton. Mellette was a 2013 seventh-round pick who spent his entire rookie season on injured reserve with torn cartilage in his knee. As recently as last month, it'd been reported that Mellette was still dealing with persistent knee issues. His career may be on the brink before it even got off the ground. Hamilton underwent wrist surgery last summer. He had 20.5 sacks for Prairie View A&M in 2011.

Ravens WR Aaron Mellette is dealing with "persistent knee issues." It's bad news for a 2013 seventh-rounder who spent his entire rookie year on injured reserve. Mellette will have to get healthy in a hurry to have a realistic shot at cracking the 53-man roster.

Ravens second-year WR Aaron Mellette (knee) has been cleared to begin running. Mellette spent his rookie season on injured reserve with torn cartilage in his knee. The seventh-round pick out of Elon flashed in his first preseason, catching nine passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns. With the Ravens receiving corps unsettled behind Torrey Smith, Mellette should have a chance to earn a sizable offensive role this summer. He essentially "redshirted" as a rookie.

Ravens placed WR Aaron Mellette on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season. A 2013 seventh-round pick, Mellette was likely looking at being a weekly inactive even when healthy. He'll be stashed on I.R. and compete for a roster spot next season.

Ravens declared WR Aaron Mellette, WR Deonte Thompson, DE Arthur Jones, DT Brandon Williams, LB John Simon, G/T Jah Reid and G/C Ryan Jensen inactive for Week 1 against the Broncos. If there's a mild surprise, it's Mellette, as the Ravens are dressing just four receivers. UDFA WR Marlon Brown is active. Thompson (foot) remains without a timetable for a return. Ripped for his practice habits by coach John Harbaugh midway through camp, Mellette might need a few solid weeks of practice to earn one of the Ravens' final game day slots.

Aaron Mellette caught two passes for nine yards in the Ravens' third preseason game against Carolina. Mellette was the third receiver in the games for the Ravens, behind Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones, but he couldn't do much with his three targets. Mellette was out-shined by fellow rookie Marlon Brown in the all-important third preseason game. After three exhibition contests, Mellette has four catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns. He'll see plenty of work in next week's preseason finale.

Coach John Harbaugh said seventh-round WR Aaron Mellette is "doing a good job." This comes a week after Harbaugh lit into Mellette on the practice field, calling him lackadaisical and lazy. The Elon product has seen limited opportunities through two preseason games, but he's secured both of his targets for long -- 21 and 40 yards -- touchdowns. The Ravens' receiver depth chart is wide open.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh lit into seventh-round WR Aaron Mellette during training camp practice Saturday. "Get [Mellette] off the field," said Harbaugh. "He's lackadaisical. He's lazy." Harbaugh also ripped CB Asa Jackson for getting into a scuffle. "Get your squirrelly [butt] out of here," Harbaugh yelled. "If you ever do that again, you are cut. It's a penalty and an ejection. Learn the rules." Mellette is actually coming off a strong preseason opener, where he caught a 21-yard touchdown. He's still on the roster bubble and can't afford to take plays off.

Seventh-round WR Aaron Mellette has struggled to get off press coverage and "looks tentative within the offense" at Ravens camp. Mellette has demonstrated efficient hands, but the jump in competition from Elon to Ravens practice has proved large for the draft's 238th overall pick. Mellette does not appear to be in the hunt for early-season playing time on offense.

Ravens agreed to terms with No. 238 overall pick WR Aaron Mellette on a four-year contract. Mellette (6-foot-2 3/8, 217) tore up D-1AA competition for 304 catches, 4,254 yards, and 44 touchdowns while at Elon. He ran a 4.54 forty and posted a 10-foot-3 broad jump at the Combine. After Torrey Smith, the Ravens' wide receiver depth chart is wide open. Mellette could challenge for snaps as a rookie.
