Matthews, playing before the Dallas crowd for the first time as a Maverick, failed to get going Tuesday. He finished with eight points (3-7 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT) and added three rebounds and three assists in a loss to the Raptors.
EDGE Analysis
Matthews was limited by early foul trouble and was never able to find a rhythm. He will look to bounce back Thursday against the Hornets.

Coach Rick Carlisle plans to play Matthews around 26-28 minutes a game as he returns from injury.
EDGE Analysis
After injuring his Achilles in March of 2015, Matthews is slowly easing into game action, hovering right around 26 minutes in each of his games thus far. This is good news as it was not expected that Matthews would recover this quickly. Although his production may be modest at first, as he gets used to his repaired Achilles, Matthews should be a valuable option at guard.

Matthews (Achilles) logged 26 minutes Sunday against the Lakers and posted 10 points, two rebounds, and one assist.
EDGE Analysis
Matthews is still recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, and the Mavericks will likely ease him back into game action initially. He sat out Thursday's game against the Clippers to rest, so there's a possibility he'll get the occasional rest as he readjusts. Look for him to be a game-time decision for Tuesday.

Matthews (Achilles) will play in Sunday's game against the Lakers, Dwain Price of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
Matthews sat out Thursday against the Clippers for precautionary reasons but is in line for his second outing of the season Sunday. He played 26 minutes during the opener against Phoenix and he'll likely be in store for a similar workload as the Mavericks look to limit his minutes at the onset of the season after tearing his Achilles tendon this past March while still playing for Portland.

Matthews (Achilles) practiced Saturday, Mavs.com's Earl Sneed reports.
EDGE Analysis
It is unclear if he will be cleared to play in Sunday's game, but it has already been reported that he will be on a minutes restriction in the early going.

Matthews (Achilles) will not play Thursday versus the Clippers, "a href="https://twitter.com/SpearsNBAYahoo/status/659898773917691905">Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Matthews was originally not expected to return from his Achilles injury until mid-to-late December, but made a surprisingly quick recovery and started Opening Night. It's not much of surprise however, that the Mavericks are being cautious with him on back-to-backs early on in the season. Along with back-to-back caution, Matthews will likely be on a minute restriction early on this season.

Matthews will be held to a minutes restriction in Wednesday's season opener against the Suns, Tim MacMahon of ESPN Dallas reports.
EDGE Analysis
Considering that Matthews only recently returned to competitive action after recovering from a torn left Achilles suffered last March, it's not a surprise that the Mavericks will be conservative with his playing time in the early going. The Mavericks didn't specify what kind of ceiling Matthews would face on his playing time, but it's possible that it might not be much more than the 16 minutes he logged in the Mavs' preseason finale last Friday against the Bulls. If that's the case, Justin Anderson, John Jenkins, and Devin Harris could be on tap to see a decent amount of involvement off the bench in the opener.

Matthews (Achilles) scored seven points (3-6 FG, 1-2 FT) and added three rebounds, two assists, and two steals over 16 minutes in his preseason debut Friday against the Bulls.
EDGE Analysis
Back on the court for game action for the first time since tearing his left Achilles tendon on March 5, Matthews showed no obvious rust while starting at shooting guard and playing much of the first half Friday. Because of the severity of Matthews' injury, it's likely that the Mavericks will be conservative with his minutes load initially, and it remains fair to wonder if he'll ever enjoy the same level of pre-surgery success that he had in Portland. Even so, due to the their sizable financial commitment in Matthews, the Mavericks should give the veteran every chance to prove he can be a serviceable complementary option to stars Dirk Nowitzki and Chandler Parsons. Now that he's been able to see some action in exhibition play, Matthews appears on tap for a start in next week's regular-season opener, with John Jenkins moving to a bench role as a result.

Matthews (Achilles) will make his preseason debut Friday, Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Matthews has been ramping up his activity level since the start of camp, and it now appears as though he has a legitimate chance to play in the Mavericks' regular season opener, as he's declared all along. The Mavs will likely wait to see how his Achilles responds following Friday's contest before making an official call, however. Matthews projects to be the unquestioned starter at shooting guard this season, and he'll likely again be among the league's top three-point threats.

Matthews (Achilles) is listed as questionable for Friday's preseason finale against the Bulls, Earl K. Sneed of Mavs.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
After dealing with an array of injuries throughout the preseason, the Mavericks seem to be nearing full health as the regular season approaches, as all five of the team's projected starters -- including Matthews -- took part in a full-court, full-contact practice Thursday. Matthews has been practicing with contact for just under two weeks now, but because of the nine-month recovery timetable usually associated with torn Achilles' tendons, the Mavs have been understandably reluctant to push him back into preseason competition. However, with Matthews, who hasn't played in a game since March 5, progressing quicker than expected, it looks like he could get the chance to take the court before the regular season gets underway. Even if he isn't cleared to play Friday, it's appearing likely that Matthews will at least earn limited minutes in the regular-season opener next week, or join the lineup shortly thereafter.
