Steve Blake (fractured rib) has been ruled out for the Lakers' game on Friday against the Cavs.
Derek Fisher will continue to start and Darius Morris will pick up more playing time as the backup PG for the Lakers.

Steve Blake has been listed as day-to-day with a costrochaondral fracture in his rib.
Blake essentially has fractured cartilage in his sternum and rib area. It's an issue of pain tolerance more than anything. Starter Derek Fisher will be asked to log heavy minutes while Blake recovers, but attempted just five shots in 36 minutes on Wednesday night.

Updating a previous item, Steve Blake's rib contusion made it difficult for him to move after Wednesday's game.
Blake "might" receive an X-Ray on Thursday, but actually injured himself on Tuesday night. He aggravated the injury to the point where he struggled to breathe, and we'd label him questionable to play on Friday against Cleveland.

Steve Blake left Wednesday night's game with what appeared to be an injury to the right side of his rib cage. He is being looked at by team trainers, and it is uncertain if he will be able to return to the game.

Coach Mike Brown said he has not thought about starting Steve Blake over Derek Fisher.
Fisher has started all 10 games this year, but is playing just 23.6 minutes per game. Blake has come off the bench for 24.4 minutes a night. Unless injury strikes, there's no fantasy upside here. These two simply cancel each other out.

Steve Blake hit 6-of-9 shots and two 3-pointers for 14 points and three assists in Sunday's loss.
He looks like a player that can help your fantasy team if you need threes, as he's hit nine of them so far, and scored in double-digits in three of his six games.

Steve Blake hit three 3-pointers and 4-of-9 shots overall for 11 points on Thursday, and also chipped in with two rebounds and three assists.
Blake has been more productive than anybody could have imagined, and if the Lakers were to ever seriously consider sitting Derek Fisher than Blake would have some nice low-end numbers. For now he can be looked at as a desperation source of threes and assists.

Steve Blake had 12 points, two 3-pointers, three rebounds and two assists in 25 minutes off the bench on Sunday.
Starting PG Derek Fisher had two points, three assists, two steals and (somehow) two blocks. The two are destined for an underwhelming timeshare all season, but at least Blake showed signs of life after a terrible season last year.

Steve Blake is feeling more confident than last season.
"Being with these guys for a while," the veteran guard said of his Lakers teammates, "when you miss a shot you're not as hard on yourself anymore." Hopefully for the Lakers, Blake plays a lot better than he showed last season, as the team needs help at the point guard position desperately. He still has three years and $12 million left on his deal.

Steve Blake blew up for 20 points and five 3-pointers on 6-of-9 shooting Wednesday against the Clippers, despite a sore knee after a collision with Chris Paul in Game 1.
The Lakers play six times in Week 1 and Blake could see a ton of action for L.A. We're not going to tell you to pick him up and put him in your lineup, but at least give it some thought if games played count in your league.
