Hummel signed a contract Friday with BC Khimki of the Russian VTB United League, international basketball writer David Pick reports.

Hummel, who was let go by the Nuggets when the preseason concluded, will head back overseas to continue his career after spending the 2015-16 campaign in Italy. The former Purdue standout last appeared in the NBA in 2014-15, suiting up in 45 games for the Timberwolves.

Hummel was waived Friday by the Nuggets, Chris Dempsey of The Denver Post reports.

Hummel was competing with Jarnell Stokes for the 15th and final roster spot, but the Nuggets decided to keep Stokes, who shined in the D-League in 2015-16 and has a less checkered medical history. After spending all of last season in Italy, it's possible Hummel may have to head back to Europe if he wants to keep his career going.

Hummel was extended a qualifying offer by the Timberwolves on Sunday and will thus become a restricted free agent, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Hummel played in just 45 games last season, finishing with averages of 4.4 points and 3.0 rebounds over 17 minutes per game. As long as he isn't extended an offer by another team that the Timberwolves aren't willing to match, he'll return to Minnesota as a depth option behind the likes of Kevin Martin, Zach LaVine, Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett. He'll likely remain very limited in his potential fantasy output.

Hummel appeared in 45 games for Minnesota this season, averaging 4.4 points and 3.0 rebounds in 16.5 minutes per game. Hummel returned for his second season with the Timberwolves after appearing in 53 contests in 2013-14. He was a rotational player for the first half of the season before breaking his hand in late-January. That injury caused him to miss two months, and he was able to return to the active roster for the final 10 games of the season. He was not overly impressive in that span, however, as he averaged 4.6 points per game and shot just 39 percent from the floor (22.3 minutes per game). At this point in his career, Hummel is solidified as a borderline-rotation player who's unlikely to make an impact from a fantasy standpoint. He'll enter the summer as a restricted free agent with a $1.15 million qualifying offer.

Hummel finished with 11 points (5-9 FG, 1.2 3Pt), 10 rebounds and two assists in 33 minutes against the Pelicans. Minnesota has been decimated by injuries and Monday was no different. Chase Budinger (ankle) and Justin Hamilton (hamstring) both went down during Monday's game. Hummel may be the beneficiary again on Wednesday if those two aren't able to play against the Thunder.

Hummel (back) is questionable to play Sunday Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune reports. Even if Hummel does play Sunday, it's unlikely that he will see enough time to be a useful fantasy option. It's more likely that he just sits out the final games of the regular season and focuses on next year.

Hummel (back) didn't play in Saturday's loss to Golden State. It wouldn't be surprising if Hummel sat out Minnesota's final two games due to the injury.

Hummel (back) is listed as questionable for Saturday's game in Golden State. Kevin Martin is dealing with an illness, which has afforded him questionable availability as well. Thus, if Hummel is unable to fend off his back contusion, Lorenzo Brown and Chase Budinger could be utilized more at shooting guard Saturday, depending on the health of Hummel and Martin.

Hummel (hand) returned to the lineup Sunday in a loss to the Pelicans. He scored six points (2-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT) in 18 minutes in addition to grabbing one rebound and dishing out one assist. Hummel had missed the past 29 games with a broken hand. Still, he doesn't hold much fantasy value that he's back. He's only scored in double figures once since Dec. 1 and is only averaging 15 minutes per game this season.

Hummel (hand) will play Sunday, play by play announcer Alan Horton reports. Hummel has missed the past 29 games after suffering a broken hand, but even when he does return, Hummel likely won't get enough playing time to be of use in fantasy playoffs.
