The Cavs announced that LeBron James will sit out to rest Monday, and it will be Jefferson who slots into the lineup in his place. Jefferson has started the last two games while Kevin Love (knee) has battled a minor injury, picking up 30-plus minutes in both victories over the Bucks. While that kind of playing time is normally favorable to a player's production, sharing the court with high-usage players in Kyrie Irving and LeBron James hasn't been conducive to much statistical output for Jefferson, who remains a supporting-cast player at this stage of his career. It's generally expected that Love will be back in time for either Friday's tilt with the Nets or the Christmas Day matchup with the Warriors, so Jefferson's run with the top unit doesn't figure to last much longer.

Jefferson had eight points (2-7 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 3-3 FT), two rebounds and a steal in 35 minutes of action Tuesday in a 114-108 overtime win over Milwaukee.

Starting in place of Kevin Love (knee), Jefferson started off slow. Very slow. He struggled to beat guys off the dribble early on and couldn't make any shots, but he came through when it mattered most, drawing three crucial free throws in the fourth quarter and drilling a three down the stretch. Love is questionable for Wednesday's rematch against the Bucks, so expect Jefferson to start again unless Love's status changes overnight.

Kevin Love is dealing with a left knee injury and has been ruled out for Tuesday, so coach Tyronn Lue said he'll promote Jefferson into the starting five. Jefferson hasn't been particularly effective when he's received extended minutes, so owners may want to temper expectations for the 36-year-old veteran. He'll likely split the extra minutes made available with Channing Frye.
