Penda did nearly half of his scoring in garbage time after the Hornets got out to a large lead. He presumably saw more playing time Thursday due to the blowout and the fact that Franz Wagner sat out with an ankle injury. Penda has shown flashes so far in his rookie campaign, but he simply isn't getting enough consistent playing time to roster in most fantasy formats.

Penda will come off the bench Thursday against the Grizzlies.

With the Magic getting Wendell Carter and Franz Wagner back in action, this is an expected move for Penda. Over his last three outings, the rookie averaged 32.9 minutes per contest with 9.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.0 steals, 1.3 blocks and 1.7 three-pointers, but he shot 34.6 percent from the field.

Penda closed with five points (2-5 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-1 FT), seven rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one steal over 30 minutes during Friday's 103-91 loss to Philadelphia.

The rookie forward was making his first career NBA start in a depleted Magic frontcourt, but Penda didn't take full advantage of the opportunity. The 2025 second-round pick has seen a big spike in his court time in January with both Franz Wagner (ankle) and Moritz Wagner (knee) sidelined and even Tristan da Silva (back) unavailable Friday, and over the last three games Penda is averaging 9.3 points, 7.3 boards, 2.0 steals, 1.7 blocks, 1.3 assists and 1.3 threes in 29.3 minutes.

Penda played the entire fourth quarter and a career-high 27 minutes as head coach Jamahl Mosley opted to stay with the bench unit after they staged a strong comeback attempt following a 26-point deficit. The 2025 second-round pick notched his fourth game with 10 or more points while setting a career high with four swipes. Penda has bounced between Orlando and the G League this season but has been impressive in the five NBA games, logging at least 20 minutes while averaging 10.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.9 blocks across 24 minutes per game.

Penda registered 13 points (6-11 FG, 1-4 3Pt), 12 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals over 24 minutes during Saturday's 128-127 overtime victory over the Jazz.

Penda is definitely making some waves with the parent club, and his standout performance alongside Paolo Banchero suggests he might see an extended stay with the team. He was originally called up to provide support for that absence, but the 2025 second-round pick is making a case for a contract adjustment.

Penda ended with 10 points (3-9 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 3-4 FT), nine rebounds and two assists across 22 minutes during Tuesday's 144-103 win over the 76ers.

EDGE Analysis

Penda has now played in at least 20 minutes in consecutive contests, flirting with double-doubles in both games. While this trend is unlikely to hold long-term, injuries to Jonathan Isaac (back) and Paolo Banchero (groin) may give more opportunities to Penda, who could be an intriguing add for fantasy managers in deeper leagues.

Penda ended Sunday's 138-129 loss to the Celtics with 13 points (5-6 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 1-1 FT), eight rebounds, four assists and one block across 23 minutes.

Penda was recalled from the G League's Osceola Magic on Friday, and while he only logged two minutes Saturday, he was much more involved Sunday with Wendell Carter (ankle), Goga Bitadze (ankle) and Paolo Banchero (groin) sidelined. Penda was averaging 2.4 points and 2.0 rebounds in seven NBA appearances entering the day, so he's unlikely to be worth rostering once the frontcourt returns to health.

The move perhaps signals that Paolo Banchero's (groin) status is in serious doubt for Saturday's game against the Knicks. That said, it's also possible Penda is joining Orlando only to practice as opposed to being an active player as depth for the NBA club this weekend.
