The Golden State Warriors have announced that Lindsey Hunter will be joining Mark Jackson's coaching staff as an assistant coach. Hunter spent last season as the interim head coach for the Phoenix Suns after Alvin Gentry was fired. During his time as head coach he compiled a record of 12-29. Hunter will help fill the void left by Mike Malone.

The Suns formally interviewed Lindsey Hunter for the head coach position, sources told Yahoo! Sports. Hunter was referred to as "one of the top guys" previously by GM Ryan McDonough, but it's hard to imagine the former guard getting another chance after his abysmal showing last season. McDonough hasn't set up any formal meetings with candidates, but according to Yahoo!, he has Jeff Hornacek, Quin Snyder, J.B. Bickerstaff, Kelvin Sampson and Steve Clifford on the radar.

Clarifying an earlier post, Suns GM Ryan McDonough called Linsey Hunter "one of the top guys" in reference to the pool of coaching candidates. This is much different than calling Hunter a "candidate." Although we still don't expect Hunter to retain his position as head coach after looking lost on the sidelines when he took over this year, it's clear McDonough hasn't slammed the door shut on that possibility completely. "The most important thing to find in our head coach is someone who is a leader," McDonough said.

New Suns general manager Ryan McDonough called Lindsey Hunter "a candidate" for the Suns' head coach position. McDonough, speaking at his introductory presser Thursday, said finding a new coach will be his first order of business and nothing he said made us think that reports of Hunter's impending ouster are untrue. We fully expect Hunter will get an cursory interview with McDonough but will likely be let go before long so the new GM can pick his own guy.

Lindsey Hunter is "widely expected to lose his post with the Suns," according to ESPN's Marc Stein. Hunter was an embarrassment as a head coach during his time at the helm of the Suns, but Phoenix's ill-constructed roster certainly didn't do him any favors. Hunter is expected to interview with the Pistons this week for their head coaching vacancy, but it's not a lock he returns to the sidelines in the 2013/14 campaign.

Confirming a previous report, Lindsey Hunter will interview for the Pistons head coaching vacancy. "It's just an interview, like any other," he said. "Hopefully, I'll continue to gain interest from other people." That isn't really sounding like a ringing endorsement about his tenure in Phoenix, but Hunter is just playing a leverage game as he looks to continue coaching next year. For what it's worth, Hunter feels he's still a "strong candidate" in Phoenix, but a new general manager might feel differently when hired.

Lindsey Hunter has asked the Suns for permission to interview for the Pistons head coaching vacancy, a source told radio host Matt Dery. Dery is in the know when it comes to the Pistons, so we're inclined to go with this report. It's another sign that Hunter's status in Phoenix is anything but secure, especially with a new regime about to take over. However, the Pistons wouldn't be inspiring much confidence by hiring Hunter, a guy who has looked completely out of his element and over his head during his brief tenure as a head coach.

The Suns fired general manager Lance Blacks on Monday. Blanks had one year left on his contract. He's also been the biggest advocate of interim coach Lindsey Hunter, who could be in serious trouble himself now. The Suns finished the season with the worst record in the Western Conference and have a serious dearth of top-level talent after Steve Nash left for the Lakers last summer.

The Suns will reevaluate Lindsey Hunter after the season, and he will keep his "interim" tag through the remainder of the year. Hunter has looked way over his head at times during his brief tenure as head coach in Phoenix, and there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to his rotation patterns. Not that we're defending him, but it's hard to get consistent production from a team when you have the Suns terrible roster. Lon Babby said there have been "positives" during Hunter's regime, and we'd imagine Alvin Gentry isn't losing sleep over the decision to mutually part ways with the franchise earlier int he year.
