Knox was one of several Knicks players who's missed the last few games (four, to be exact) while passing through protocols. He could face some conditioning limitations, but Knox will be available as the Knicks tip off the Christmas Day against the Hawks.

Knox becomes the fourth Knicks player placed in the protocols in less than a week, joining Obi Toppin, RJ Barrett and Quentin Grimes. At this point, the Knicks haven't revealed whether Knox was deactivated due to a positive test of the virus or after being deemed a close contact of an infected person. The absences of Toppin and Barrett for the past two games and Grimes for the most recent contest allowed Knox to pick up at least 20 minutes in both of his latest two appearances before entering the health and safety protocols.

Knox finished with 18 points (6-15 FG, 5-12 3Pt, 1-2 FT), five rebounds, one assist and one block across 28 minutes of play during Sunday's 112-97 loss to Milwaukee.

Coming into Sunday's defeat to the Bucks, Knox's previous best outing was a two-point showing during eight minutes of play in a Nov. 26 loss to the Suns. The fourth-year forward exploded for season-highs in points, rebounds and minutes as the absences of RJ Barrett (COVID), Obi Toppin (COVID), and Alec Burks (personal) left the Knicks quite short-handed. Knox did average 12.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as a 19-year-old rookie, so hopefully this performance can get the Kentucky product rolling here in his fourth season. If New York remains undermanned Tuesday against the Warriors, Knox emerges as a high-risk, high-reward fantasy option in DFS formats.

Knox was a DNP-Coach's Decision during Wednesday's season-opening double-overtime win over the Celtics.

EDGE Analysis

Knox is out of coach Tom Thibodeau's rotation to begin the season. While not surprising, it's noteworthy given that Knox was the ninth overall pick in 2018 and is now seemingly at risk of falling out of the league by next season when his rookie contract expires.

Knox will not participate in Summer League, as he's been placed in health and safety protocols.

Knox requested to be on the team, but he'll ultimately be unable to play due to protocols. Knox has struggled to find a consistent role since being drafted No. 9 overall in 2018. During the Knicks' surprising run last season, he saw just 11.0 minutes per game in 42 appearances. On the plus side, he shot a career-high 39.3 percent from distance, though it was on just 89 total attempts.

Knox is expected to be on the Knicks Summer League roster per his request to be on the team, Ian Begley of SportsNet New Yorkreports.

Knox reportedly requested to play for the Summer League team following his third season in the NBA. The forward had a rough season last year as he averaged 3.9 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 42 games. The 21-year-old likely wants to join the team to prove to the Knicks coaches that he deserves a role in the rotation for this upcoming season.

Knox is averaging 4.8 minutes, 2.0 points and 0.3 rebounds in nine games since the All-Star break.

EDGE Analysis

The 2018 ninth-overall pick is struggling to find consistent run, playing 10-plus minutes only once since January. Before the All-Star game, Knox saw 15.2 minutes per game, which would have been similar to his playing time from his sophomore year (17.9), but with the Knicks in contention for a postseason berth, the youth movement seems to have fallen by the wayside. Julius Randle's breakout year and the addition of rookie Obi Toppin haven't helped Knox's case, either.

Knox totaled seven points (2-5 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT) and one rebound during Tuesday's loss to the Spurs.

EDGE Analysis

With the game out of hand in the third quarter, the forward managed 19 minutes of action which was his most since Jan. 24 against Utah. His seven points and two threes were also his best total since Jan. 13 against Brooklyn when he recorded 13 points. Entering Tuesday, Knox was averaging 5.0 points and 1.9 rebounds.

Knox didn't play in Monday's win over the Hawks.

Knox appeared in each of the past two games before Monday's absence. Since Jan. 26, the Kentucky product has only appeared in four games while scoring a total of two points.

With Reggie Bullock (neck) returning from a three-game absence Sunday, the Knicks had all of their key guards and wings available for one of the few times all season. After being held under 10 minutes in both of his previous two contests, Knox was unsurprisingly squeezed out of the rotation to make room for Bullock, allowing Alec Burks to run with Immanuel Quickley and Austin Rivers as part of a three-guard second unit. Before sitting out Sunday's contest, Knox had averaged 6.1 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.3 three-pointers in 18.2 minutes per game over 20 outings.
