Wall (Achilles) will have his workload restricted during the upcoming season, Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington reports. That involves reducing Wall's minutes and playing him in only one game of back-to-back sets.
EDGE Analysis
This news means there will be a cap on Wall's fantasy upside, as the Wizards expect to have upwards of 14 back-to-backs in the 72-game season, meaning he could miss as many as seven games by default. A reduction in minutes also means Wall will likely have an extremely difficult time returning to his 20-and-10 form, and he'll also likely struggle to reach nearly two steals per game. That said, Wall is still expected to be one of the better sources of assists and steals in the league, but fantasy managers likely won't have an easy time deciding where to draft him.

Wall (Achilles) will not travel with the Wizards to Orlando for the resumption of the NBA season, David Aldridge of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
By all accounts, Wall continues to progress well in his recovery from a torn Achilles, but he will not be with the team when the season resumes. Instead, Wall will work out in Washington, D.C. and Miami with coaches, per Wizards GM Tommy Sheppard. Sheppard noted that the extensive time off interrupted Wall's schedule, but all indications are that he'll be ready for the start of the 2020-21 season.

During a conference call with the media on Tuesday, Wall (Achilles) once again reiterated that he feels "110 percent" healthy, Fred Katz of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Over the last few months, Wall has spoken openly about his progress as he works back from the torn Achilles tendon that's shelved him since midway through the 2018-19 season. While he once again stated that he feels healthier than ever, Wall and the Wizards remain aligned in the stance that the point guard will not play if the 2019-20 season resumes. The timeline is still very much up in the air, of course, but the goal is for Wall to return to action to begin the 2020-21 campaign.

In a recent interview with 247Sports, Wall (Achilles) expressed confidence in his game as he continues to work back from a ruptured Achilles tendon.
EDGE Analysis
Wall hasn't played in an NBA game since December of 2018, but he's gradually worked his way back toward full strength, and he's confident that he'll be able to return to playing at an All-Star level. "The sky is the limit," Wall said. "This is the healthiest I will have been, damn near my whole NBA career. That's why I took my time, that's why I didn't want to come back this season and be on a minutes restriction and try to do all of that. I just wanted to make sure I'm fully healthy, my body is where I want it to be and prepare for next season." Prior to the suspension of the NBA season, Wall had been practicing with the Wizards' G League affiliate and going through 5-on-5 scrimmages without restriction. Wall also noted that he's spent time improving his jumpshot, which has been an on-and-off issue since he entered the league in 2010-11. Wall implied that the injury -- as well as bone spurs in his ankle -- contributed to his at times inconsistent shooting. "People don't even know that sometimes when going full speed and then trying to stop was the worst, it was like somebody stabbed me with a knife in my heel and twisting it," Wall said. "It was so bad but like me just being able to take time off and get fully healthy. When I shoot one-dribble pull-ups and run and do certain things, it doesn't bother me at all, I just feel free."

Wall (Achilles) confirmed Thursday during an appearance on ESPN's "The Jump" program that he won't suit up for the Wizards in 2019-20 if or when the suspended season resumes, Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington reports.
EDGE Analysis
General manager Tommy Sheppard said a week earlier that Wall wouldn't be available to play following the NBA hiatus, but it's at least good to know that the point guard is on the same page with the front office with regard to his rehab from surgery to repair his left Achilles' tendon. Wall said in his TV appearance Thursday that he's continuing to work out on the basketball court and in the gym at his home, and noted that he currently weighs in at 212 pounds, about seven more pounds than his ideal playing weight. With no word that he's experienced any setbacks since undergoing surgery 14 months ago, Wall is expected to be in playing shape by the time training camp for the 2020-21 season begins.

Prior to the suspension of the season, Wall (Achilles) had been practicing with the Wizards' G League affiliate, Fred Katz of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The plan all along was for Wall to sit out the entirety of the 2019-20 season, but, according to Katz, the multi-time All-Star was quietly cleared for contact behind the scenes. Wall had been scrimmaging with the Capital City Go-Go roughly every three days prior to the shutdown, playing for 20-to-25 minutes per scrimmage. "You want a highly competitive deal, so we sort of decided with John, it was time to play with the Go-Go (and) practice," Wizards GM Tommy Sheppard said. "And when we can, we'd have a scrimmage for him. It's just been wonderful. It validates our process we have in place, to be able to utilize the Go-Go for so many functions to help the Wizards. And for them, I think those kids were freakin' thrilled to play with John." By all accounts, Wall was beginning to look like his old self in practices, with G League teammates praising his athleticism and competitiveness. "You always wonder (when) someone comes off an injury like that, how they (are going to) come back," Go-Go point guard Jerian Grant said. "He's been scrimmaging with us, and he's coast to coast in two seconds. So, he looks really good. ... Still playing the way he was playing before the injuries." According to Go-Go coach Ryan Richman, Wall appeared to be in good physical shape. "He looks slim. He looks really good," Richman said. "If we didn't take him out, he'd just go the whole time."

Wall (Achilles) isn't expected to take the court for the Wizards if the NBA resumes this season, Candace Buckner of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Multiple members of the organization had already implied that Wall won't play in 2019-20, and the NBA's ongoing suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic apparently hasn't changed that line of thinking. Buckner notes that Wall has looked good in controlled environments during his recovery, but the league's suspension has left the point guard unable to simulate the intensity of his usual rehab workouts due to social distancing requirements. Team doctors would advise against quickly throwing him into games if the season resumed.

Wizards general manager Tommy Sheppard acknowledged Sunday in a Reddit "AMA" session that Wall (Achilles) has been scrimmaging with the G League's Capital City Go-Go of late, Candace Buckner of The Washington Post reports. "We see John scrimmage with the Go-Go, we see him at practice with the Wizards. And while the rust is still there, there's plenty of signs that point to a full recovery," Sheppard posted.
EDGE Analysis
The Wizards have yet to officially rule Wall out for the season, but the point guard's own comments on the matter and nearly everything team officials have said about the situation to date suggest he won't be back before Washington wraps up its 2019-20 slate in mid-April. The fact that Wall is taking part in on-court work just over a year after requiring surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles' tendon bodes well for his chances of being free of restrictions once training camp arrives next fall, but Washington will presumably wait and see how he progresses over the summer before commenting on his outlook heading into 2020-21. Wall, who will turn 30 in September, is owed north of $40 million over the next two seasons, and his long-term extension also includes a $47.37 million player option for the 2022-23 campaign.

At a recent team event, Wall (Achilles) implied that he never anticipated returning during the 2019-20 season, Candace Buckner of the Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
While all indications are that Wall continues to make progress in his return from a torn left Achilles, the expectation remains that he will not be back on the floor at any point this season. When asked about that possibility, Wall told reporters: "[sitting out the season] was my plan from the start." Wall went on to note that he talked to close friend DeMarcus Cousins, who also suffered a torn Achilles, and Cousins told him that one year of rehab was not sufficient. Wall has not played since Dec. 26, 2018 but is expected to be ready for the start of the 2020-21 season.

Wall (Achilles) said Wednesday that he took part in 5-on-5 scrimmaging in Miami, Candace Buckner of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Curiously, Wall's on-court workout didn't come during a Wizards practice; instead, the point guard scrimmaged with several ex-Heat players, including former lottery picks Amar'e Stoudemire and Michael Beasley. According to Wall, it was the first time that he had taken part in a 5-on-5 workout since he underwent a pair of surgeries last January to repair his ruptured left Achilles' tendon. While the activity marks a significant step forward in the rehab process for Wall, the expectation remains that he'll be sidelined for the entire 2019-20 campaign, even though the Wizards have refused to officially rule him out for the season.
