Bonga will come off the bench Thursday against the Bulls, Fred Katz of The Athletic reports.

Bonga started the first four games of the season with Rui Hachimura (eye) out, but with Hachimura back, Bonga will be relegated to a bench role. It's possible he still sees his current average of 17.8 minutes per game, and he could end up playing a bit better while going up against second units. Regardless, Bonga isn't a fantasy target outside of the deepest leagues.

Bonga is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's season opener at Philadelphia, Chris Miller of NBC Sports Washington reports.

The 21-year-old started 49 games for the Wizards last season and will begin the 2020-21 campaign in the starting five with Davis Bertans on a minutes restriction. Bonga averaged 5.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 20.9 minutes as a starter in 2019-20, and he's unlikely to progress into a significant producer this season.

Bonga recorded 10 points (4-6 FG, 2-4 3pt, 0-2 FT), seven rebounds and three steals in 33 minutes in the 97-86 loss to Detroit on Thursday.

EDGE Analysis

Bonga was relatively inefficient on the floor during the loss Thursday. The forward not only went cold during his extended floor time, but also found himself on the floor during a majority of the points against. Bonga has yet to impress during the pre-season and will need to turn form quickly, otherwise he will find the bench rather early.

The starting small forward spot remains an open competition, and Bonga is getting the nod Thursday. In his first preseason appearance, he posted just four points, two rebounds and two assists in 22.2 minutes.

Bonga finished with 10 points (5-6 FG, 0-1 3Pt), three boards, two assists, one block, and one steal in 30 minutes of a 126-113 loss to Milwaukee on Tuesday.

EDGE Analysis

Bonga hit every statistical category as a starter against the Bucks, and he was efficient from the field, shooting 83.3 percent in the contest. But his strong showing wasn't enough to lift the Wizards in the contest as they lost their seventh consecutive game since the restart. He'll finish the season against Boston on Thursday.

With Bradley Beal (shoulder) not joining the Wizards in the bubble, Bonga will grab his spot at shooting guard and should see extended run. In the 12 games that he's seen 24-plus minutes this season, Bonga is averaging 6.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists.

Bonga registered 15 points (4-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 7-9 FT), 12 reboundsand an assist across 28 minutes in Saturday's 105-100 scrimmage loss to the Clippers in Orlando.

EDGE Analysis

The former second-round pick from Germany may finally get his shot with the Wizards after toiling on the bench for the majority of his tenure in Washington. With Davis Bertans (personal) and Bradley Beal (shoulder) out of the bubble for the duration, the Wizards find themselves woefully short-handed, which couldn't set up better for Bonga. He'll join Rui Hachimura as a go-to wingman, and the duo will do their best to absorb Beal and Bertans' output alongside Troy Brown.

Bonga was ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Knicks with a groin contusion.

EDGE Analysis

Bonga started Sunday's loss to the Heat and presumably sustained the injury while putting up three points and one steal in 15 minutes. Garrison Matthews may see increased run in his absence Tuesday.

Bonga will start Sunday's game against Miami.
