The Magic will not pick up the team option on Daniel Orton's contract. Early knee surgery derailed his career and he hasn't had a chance to play much. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in July, but could easily end up playing in Europe next season.

Daniel Orton still needs more time to develop. Orton missed his entire rookie season due to knee surgery last year, and Stan Van Gundy isn't ready to rely on him to contribute in the rotation. "Daniel's very inexperienced, and he's not ready to be thrown into a game right now." It's safe to say that he's not going to come into fantasy value at any point in the near future.

He can jump off his knee with no pain, and depending on how things shake out with the Dwight Howard situation he could be lined up for some minutes. We tend to doubt, however, that he will be thrown in the fire for anything but a backup role as just a second-year player with no game experience. Orton missed all of last year after knee surgery.

The Magic are relying on Orton as the backup to Howard currently, but if traded, Orton could see a much bigger role than just playing when Howard sits. He had knee surgery in September and didn't play a single game for Orlando last year. He could have an especially meaningful role if an oft-injured Andrew Bynum winds up with the Magic.
