Marjanovic netted a career high 18 points (8-10 FG, 2-2 FT) against the 76ers on Monday, adding four rebounds, an assist, and two steals in 17 minutes.

The 7'3 center took advantage of his opportunities Monday night when Tim Duncan (rest) was kept out of the lineup. As Duncan is in line to return in their next contest on Wednesday, Marjanovic's role will likely substantially decrease but he may have earned some more time especially in the future when Duncan takes more nights off.

Marjanovic was recalled from the D-League's Austin Spurs on Sunday.

With four games on deck during the week, including a back-to-back set next weekend against the Lakers and Hawks, the Spurs will bring Marjanovic back aboard in the event coach Gregg Popovich decides to rest Tim Duncan -- or any of his other players -- during that time. Marjanovic dominated during his stay in the D-League, scoring 34 points on 16-of-18 shooting in Austin's win over Reno on Saturday.

Coach Gregg Popovich said Saturday that Marjanovic will stay with the D-League Austin Spurs for a little while, Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News reports. "He just needs playing time," Gregg Popovich said. "He needs to play and get used to the league, and not just sit there and watch us play."

The 7-foot-3 rookie from Serbia hasn't been a regular part of the Spurs' rotation this seeing, with most of his 10 appearances coming in games where the outcome had already been decided. Marjanovic should have a chance to see more extensive minutes with Austin, with whom he sparkled in Saturday's win over Reno, finishing with 34 points on 16-of-18 shooting to go with 12 boards.

Marjanovic (coach's decision) was inactive for Monday's 92-89 loss to the Bulls.

Marjanovic received a spot start last Friday against the Nuggets while Tim Duncan was rested, but only played six minutes in that contest and has since assumed a deep bench role over the last two games. It looks like he'll remain outside of coach Gregg Popovich's rotation more often than not, but the Spurs' frequent tendency to blow out opponents could afford the 7-foot-3 center some occasional garbage-time minutes.

Marjanovic has been very limited in the amount of minutes he plays to this point in the regular season. He is only averaging 3.0 minutes per game, because he is currently behind veterans Tim Duncan and Boris Diaw on the depth chart. There will be very little room for Marjanovic to increase his role without injuries occurring.

Marjanovic (ankle) played 11 minutes in Thursday's preseason opener against the Kings, scoring two points (1-2 FG) while adding two blocks and a rebound.

Marjanovic was unable to compete for the Serbian national team in the recently completed EuroBasket 2015 tournament while he recovered from a fractured foot, but his presence on the court for the preseason opener indicates that he's reached the end of his injury timetable. At 7-foot-3 and 293 pounds, Marjanovic is a load down low, but projects to see only back-end bench minutes this season.
