Knowing that Damian Lillard might miss Monday's game against the Bucks -- and possibly more -- due to a calf injury, Simons could be in line for an uptick in usage, which may translate into even better numbers in what has been a career-best season for the fifth-year guard.

Since missing two games, Simons is performing extremely well, averaging 22.8 points, 4.5 assists and 3.3 rebounds over a four-game span. The Trail Blazers lean heavily on Simons and Damian Lillard, and their combined presence is key to their success. Staying healthy has been a concern for both players so far this season, but there aren't many backcourts that can match the duo when they are 100 percent.

Simons closed Thursday's 106-95 victory over the Pelicans with 23 points (5-18 FG, 5-13 3Pt, 8-8 FT), three rebounds and six assists in 37 minutes.

Simons finished as the Blazers' second-leading scorer in the contest, but he posted an ugly 5-for-18 shooting line. That was largely due to going 0-for-5 from two-point range, as he shot a respectable 5-for-13 from beyond the arc. Simons also made all eight of his free-throw tries to take a bit of the sting out of his poor field-goal rate. He's now scored over 20 points in six of his 10 contests this season and is averaging 22.1 points per game.

Simons recorded 19 points (7-18 FG, 2-9 3Pt, 3-6 FT), six assists, three rebounds and two steals in 33 minutes during Portland's 105-95 win over the Hornets on Wednesday.

EDGE Analysis

Simons did most of his damage in the second quarter, going 3-of-4 from the field and 2-of-3 from behind the arc for nine points. The Portland guard also played a major role in extending the team's lead down the stretch, dishing out three fourth-quarter assists, including one to Josh Hart immediately after the former stole a pass from Kelly Oubre. Simons has scored in double figures in every game this season and has now recorded six or more assists in three of his last four appearances.

Simons (foot) will play in Wednesday's game against the Hornets.

EDGE Analysis

Simons was part of an initial six-man listing of probable statuses leading up to the contest. While three of those players were eventually downgraded and ruled out, Simons will play again and should be counted on for a sizable chunk of scoring with Jerami Grant (ankle) and Jusuf Nurkic (thigh) both ruled out.
