Darvish coughed up two runs through four innings before the Rays broke the game open in the fifth, led by Randy Arozarena's three-run shot. Over his last two starts, Darvish has allowed 10 runs in 10.1 innings, shooting his ERA back up to 4.74 through 13 starts in 2023. He's given up at least four runs in six of those outings, including four of his last six. He'll look to move back over .500 in his next start, which is lined up to be in San Francisco next week.

Darvish was on turn to pitch Thursday versus the Guardians, but he and Ryan Weathers will flip-flop spots. It's a big downgrade in matchup for Darvish, but you can understand it from the Padres' perspective in not wanting to throw Weathers against Tampa Bay.

Darvish was able to escape Coors Field with his third win in his last four starts. He had a strong start going before fading in the sixth inning. For the season, the veteran right-hander has managed a 4.30 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 74:22 K:BB through 69 innings over 12 outings. He's lined up for a home start versus light-hitting Cleveland next week.

Darvish had his worst start of the year versus the Yankees on Sunday, but he responded in a big way. This was the second time he's completed seven innings in 2023, and the three baserunners he allowed were a season low. The 36-year-old's performance has tailed off a bit -- he'd allowed at least four runs in three of his previous six starts before Saturday's dominant showing. Darvish is at a 4.10 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 68:18 K:BB through 63.2 innings through 11 outings this season. He'll look to build off this one, though he's projected for a challenging road start in Colorado his next time out.

Darvish (3-4) took the loss Sunday, allowing seven runs on seven hits over 2.2 innings against the Yankees. He struck out two.

Darvish allowed five consecutive hits without recording an out in the third inning, eventually surrendering six runs in the frame. It's been an up-and-down year for Darvish -- his ERA is up to 5.74 through five starts in May after posting a 3.60 mark in April. Overall, the 36-year-old Darvish sports a 4.61 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP and 59:17 K:BB through 10 starts (56.2 innings) this season. He'll look to right the ship in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week against the Cubs.

Darvish (3-3) picked up the win Tuesday, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk over six innings in a 7-4 victory over the Nationals. He struck out four.

The veteran right-hander delivered his fourth quality start of the season, with three of them coming in his last four outings. Darvish tossed 67 of 90 pitches for strikes and blanked Washington for four innings before CJ Abrams and Lane Thomas homered back-to-back in the fifth. Darvish will take a 3.67 ERA and 59:17 K:BB through 54 innings into his next start, which is likely to come on the road this weekend in Yankee Stadium.

Darvish (2-3) took the loss Wednesday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks over 5.1 innings against the Royals. He struck out six.

EDGE Analysis

Darvish was in control through five innings, having allowed just one run, Darvish started the sixth by walking Bobby Witt then gave up three extra-base hits before being pulled. The sixth inning pushed Darvish's ERA up to 3.56 and his WHIP to 1.13. The righty is tentatively scheduled to face the Nationals in his next start.

The right-hander rebounded from giving up three homers in last appearance, though that one came at altitude in Mexico City last Sunday. This was Darvish's second quality start in six outings this season, and he has a 3.19 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 40:13 K:BB through 36.2 innings. He's on track for a road start in Minnesota next week.

Darvish did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing four runs on nine hits over six innings against the Giants. He struck out nine.

EDGE Analysis

Darvish fell victim to the high altitude of Mexico City, allowing a trio of solo home runs to LaMonte Wade, J.D. Davis and Mitch Haniger in separate innings. However, he was able to salvage the outing by allowing just one other run while also striking out nine. Darvish's swing-and-miss arsenal has been inconsistent this season, with 21 of his 34 punchouts coming from two appearances. He is tentatively scheduled to make his next start Saturday against the hard-hitting Dodgers.
