Chirinos signed a minor-league contract with the Marlins on Tuesday, which includes an invitation to spring training, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Chirinos was effective across 25 starts combined between the 2018 and 2019 seasons with the Rays, but a combination of struggles on the field and a serious elbow injury have derailed his opportunity in the majors since then. The Marlins have a deep rotation so Chirinos isn't likely to find immediate opportunity, though he could be a leading candidate for spot starts when injuries occur if he can stick in the organization.

Chirinos (elbow) was non-tendered by Atlanta on Friday, MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
He didn't pitch after Aug. 19 due to elbow inflammation. Chirinos tallied a 5.40 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 53 strikeouts in 85 innings while splitting time between Atlanta and the Rays in 2023.

Chirinos (elbow) was designated for assignment by Atlanta on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver claim Penn Murfee. Chirinos had seemed likely to be non-tendered, anyway, after posting a 5.40 ERA over 20 appearances for Tampa Bay and Atlanta in 2023. He ended the season on the 60-day injured list with an elbow problem and it's not clear what his current health status is.

Atlanta transferred Chirinos (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Chirinos is done for the remainder of the regular season due to a right elbow injury. It was initially labeled as inflammation but might be more serious than that. The 29-year-old surrendered 23 earned runs in 22.1 major-league innings (five starts) with the NL East leaders in 2023 and could be a non-tender candidate this winter.

Atlanta placed Chirinos on the 15-day injured list Monday with right elbow inflammation.
EDGE Analysis
Chirinos seemingly had been set to lose his rotation spot due to performance, but instead he'll go on the IL and will be sidelined at least until early September. Allan Winans was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move and will replace Chirinos in the rotation beginning with Monday's game against the Mets.

Chirinos did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk over four innings against the Giants. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
After giving up six runs in back-to-back starts, Chirinos only allowed four runners to score during Saturday's no-decision, including a leadoff homer to LaMonte Wade in the first. Since being acquired by Atlanta at the trade deadline (five starts), Chirinos owns an ugly 9.27 ERA and a 22:7 K:BB and has yet to go deeper than five innings. He's tentatively scheduled for a rematch with the Giants in San Francisco for his next start.

Chirinos (5-5) allowed six runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings Sunday, striking out five and taking a loss against the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
Chirinos held the Mets to one run through four frames before they broke out in the fifth inning. He was charged with six runs for the second straight outing, driving his ERA up to 5.22 through 81 frames. Over his last nine starts, Chirinos has registered a brutal 8.05 ERA. His next appearance is projected to be at home against the Giants.

Chirinos escaped with a no-decision Tuesday in Atlanta's 8-6 win over the Pirates, surrendering six runs on seven hits -- including four home runs -- over five innings. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
A Ke'Bryan Hayes three-run blast in the first inning set the tone for Chirinos' night, but Atlanta rallied in the ninth to take the right-hander off the hook for his fifth loss of the year. He's mostly been a disaster so far for the NL East leaders since being claimed off waivers from the Rays, lurching to an 8.56 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB through 13.2 innings over three starts, and it's no coincidence that AJ Smith-Shawver is on the same schedule as Chirinos as Triple-A. The 20-year-old struck out seven without walking a batter in a six-inning quality start for Gwinnett on Tuesday, and Atlanta could call him back up to fill the fifth starter role -- bumping Chirinos to the bullpen, or perhaps even back to the waiver wire -- as soon as this weekend's road series against the Mets.

Chirinos (1-0) earned the win Wednesday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk over five innings against the Angels while striking out five.
EDGE Analysis
After striking out Shohei Ohtani to open the bottom of the fourth, Chirinos allowed a single and a walk to the next two batters, which would eventually lead to the Angels' first run coming home. The right-hander was then relieved by Michael Tonkin in the sixth after allowing back-to-back to singles to open the frame, but not before racking up a season-high five strikeouts on the afternoon. It marked Chirinos' first win with his new club, though he's now given three or more runs in each of his last three starts.

Chirinos is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Angels at Truist Park, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
He'll go head-to-head with the Angels' Lucas Giolito as both pitchers make their second starts for their new teams. In his Atlanta debut this past Friday against the Brewers, Chirinos lasted just 3.2 innings while giving up four runs on six hits and one walk, but he induced 10 swinging strikes on 61 pitches, good for a season-best 16.4 percent rate.
