Willie Bloomquist (back) remains out of the Diamondbacks' lineup on Saturday night, but he doesn't believe he'll require a trip to the disabled list. Arizona manager Kirk Gibson told reporters Bloomquist could return to the starting lineup as early as Sunday. He's had a decent season to this point, batting .299/.323/.395 with seven stolen bases.

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said that Willie Bloomquist (back) saw a chiropractor on Wednesday morning and is feeling "much better." Bloomquist hasn't played since Sunday due to a bad back, but Gibson thinks a stint on the disabled list is very unlikely. The veteran utility man is hitting .299/.323/.395 with seven stolen bases and a .710 OPS this season.

Willie Bloomquist was scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to soreness in his hamstrings. It's considered a precautionary move, so while he seems likely to sit out again Wednesday, he could be available after Thursday's off day. John McDonald took his place at shortstop.

Willie Bloomquist went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the Padres. He also drew a walk. Bloomquist is filling in for Stephen Drew at shortstop and is off to a nice start, batting .389 with a couple steals. His speed will give him some short-term value in deeper leagues.

Willie Bloomquist turned down a richer contract offer from the Giants before signing a two-year, $3.8 million deal Wednesday morning with the Diamondbacks, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. How much richer is unclear. Bloomquist also may have been given an opportunity to start at shortstop in San Francisco, but he decided to remain in his comfort zone and re-up with Arizona. The 33-year-old veteran will function as a super-utilityman for the Diamondbacks next year. He batted .266/.317/.340 this past season.

According to Scott Miller of CBSSports.com, the Diamondbacks and Willie Bloomquist have agreed to a two-year, $3.8 million contract. This confirms a report by Peter Gammons. The Giants also expressed interest in Bloomquist, but Diamondbacks' GM Kevin Towers is apparently determined to corner the market on utility-types for a second straight offseason. The Diamondbacks already signed John McDonald to a two-year, $3 million deal earlier this month.
