He was expected to join the big club when rosters expanded Thursday, but the veteran infielder has decided to shut it down, instead.

Marlins released INF Wes Helms. Helms, 35, batted just .191/.276/.236 with zero homers and five doubles in 69 games for the Marlins this year. He'll presumably try to land a minor league deal elsewhere.
