The Nationals released Bernabel on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Bernabel reached the big leagues with the Rockies in 2025 and produced a .698 OPS in 146 plate appearances, but after being non-tendered following the season, he landed with the Nationals on a minor-league deal. Though he looked to be a serious candidate for Washington's wide-open first-base job heading into spring training, Bernabel was cut early in camp and will now be in search of a new organization after getting released.

The Nationals reassigned Bernabel to minor-league camp Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Pushed off the Rockies' 40-man roster in the offseason after posting a .698 OPS in 146 plate appearances with the big club in 2025, Bernabel caught on with the Nationals on a minor-league deal in December. Though Washington is heading into 2026 without an established everyday option at first base, Bernabel apparently didn't make a compelling enough of a case for a spot on the Opening Day roster, despite going 3-for-9 with a walk and no strikeouts over his first five Grapefruit League games. Bernabel should be in line for an everyday role in the corner infield at Triple-A Rochester to begin the season.

The Nationals signed Bernabel to a minor-league contract Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bernabel elected free agency earlier this month after being removed from the Rockies' 40-man roster, and he's quickly latched on in a new organization. The 23-year-old slashed .252/.288/.410 with four homers in 40 games with the big club in 2025 and had a .301/.356/.450 batting line with eight long balls at Triple-A Albuquerque. Bernabel plays both corner infield spots and the Nationals don't have much at those positions, so he could find his way onto the Opening Day roster.

Bernabel cleared waivers Saturday and elected free agency.
EDGE Analysis
Bernabel debuted in the majors in 2025 and slashed .252/.288/.410 with four homers, 14 RBI and 15 runs scored over 40 games with the Rockies. After being removed from the 40-man roster, the 23-year-old infielder will now look to free agency for his next opportunity, though he may have to settle for a minor-league deal.

EDGE Analysis
Bernabel suffered a head injury against the Dodgers on Sept. 8 and was diagnosed with a concussion following the game, but he has cleared MLB's protocol and will play Wednesday. Bernabel has slashed .264/.301/.434 with one steal, 15 runs, four home runs and 14 RBI in 136 plate appearances since making his major-league debut July 26.

Bernabel was placed on the 7-day concussion injured list Tuesday, Kevin Henry of The Denver Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bernabel suffered a head injury in Monday's contest against the Dodgers, which is now understood to be a concussion. The 23-year-old will be forced to miss at least a week of action while recovering. In the meantime, Michael Toglia was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday to replace Bernabel on the 26-man roster.

Bernabel was removed from Monday's game against the Dodgers due to an apparent head injury, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bernabel made a diving attempt at a foul ball in the bottom of the first inning and was ultimately able to make it off the field under his own power. The Colorado training staff was spotted evaluating Bernabel's head before he walked off. The severity of the injury is unclear at this time.

Bernabel went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored in Saturday's 10-8 loss to the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Bernabel had gone just 1-for-32 over his previous 10 games before breaking out of the slump with a big performance Saturday. The young infielder still needs to work on his consistency at the plate, but he's getting plenty of opportunities to do so as the main first baseman for the Rockies down the stretch. Overall, he's posted a .254/.288/.429 slash line with four home runs, 14 RBI, 15 runs scored, eight doubles and one steal over 35 games.
