The Phillies plan to have Buehler, who has been assigned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, make his first start with the big club Sept. 12 versus Kansas City, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Buehler was assigned to Lehigh Valley after signing a minor-league contract with Philadelphia on Sunday, but he'll remain at Triple-A on a short-term basis before joining the big club when it expands its rotation to six men Sept. 12. With Zack Wheeler (shoulder) out for the season, the Phillies seem to be opting to deploy a six-man rotation down the stretch, with Taijuan Walker and Buehler making up the final two starting slots. Buehler should be able to get in three starts with the Phillies if he indeed debuts with the club against Kansas City.

The Phillies officially signed Buehler to a minor-league contract Sunday and assigned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
EDGE Analysis
Though Buehler's contract is a minor-league deal, it's likely just a formality so that the Phillies can avoid a move when the active roster expands from 26 to 28 men Monday. Since the veteran hurler officially joined the organization before the end of Sunday, he'll still be eligible for the postseason roster. Buehler will likely serve in a swingman role down the stretch while offering the Phillies an experienced arm with past postseason success.

Buehler agreed to a one-year contract with the Phillies on Sunday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cut loose by the Red Sox earlier in the weekend, Buehler was able to quickly find work with another playoff-contending organization that was looking to bolster its starting depth. Though he owns a lifetime 3.56 ERA over parts of eight big-league seasons, Buehler languished during his time in Boston, submitting a 5.45 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 84:55 K:BB in 112.1 innings over 23 appearances (22 starts) before losing his spot on the roster. The 31-year-old boasts extensive playoff experience dating back to his time with the Dodgers, and the Phillies are hopeful that the right-hander can provide the pitching staff with a lift in September as the team potentially gears up for a deep postseason run. With Zack Wheeler (shoulder) recently getting shut down for the season, the Phillies have kept Taijuan Walker in the fold as their fifth starter and have received decent results from him, so Buehler won't necessarily be in store for a rotation spot right away with Philadelphia. Instead, he could head to the bullpen and serve as a long-relief option initially once the Phillies formally add him to their roster Monday.

The Red Sox released Buehler on Friday, Chris Henrique of the Boston Sports Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Buehler was recently demoted to the bullpen and has now been cut loose by Boston after stumbling to a 5.45 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 84:55 K:BB over 112.1 innings covering 23 appearances (22 starts). The Red Sox will be responsible for what remains of his $18.05 million salary, as well as a $3 million buyout on his 2026 option. Buehler simply hasn't been the same pitcher since his second Tommy John surgery, holding a 5.42 ERA and 17.4 percent strikeout rate since the beginning of the 2024 season.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora relayed Friday that Buehler will be moved from the rotation to the bullpen, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Buehler has struggled in his first season in Boston, posting a 7-7 record across 22 starts with a 5.40 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 82:54 K:BB across 110 innings. The veteran right-hander will likely be used in long relief out of the bullpen and will help fortify the depth with Justin Slaten (shoulder), Luis Guerrero (elbow), Josh Winckowski (elbow) and Liam Hendriks (hip) all on the 60-day injured list. Buehler was originally slated to start against the Orioles on Monday, but Cora has yet to name a starter in Buehler's stead. Per Cotillo, Richard Fitts and Kyle Harrison are the leading candidates to fill in as Monday's starter.

Buehler could be moved to the bullpen prior to his next scheduled start, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Buehler has struggled with his command all season, but his performance has gone even further downhill of late. He has a 6.5 BB/9 and a 1.72 WHIP across his last five starts, and he's failed to complete at least five innings three times in that span. Richard Fitts would be a candidate to take Buehler's rotation spot, as would Kyle Harrison, Payton Tolle or Connelly Early.

Buehler didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against Baltimore, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks across four innings. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Buehler has struggled to locate pitches this season, and those issues have been exaggerated recently. He has more walks than strikeouts across his last five starts, and he's posted a 4.32 ERA along with a 15:18 K:BB across 25 innings during that stretch. Buehler hasn't struck out more than four batters in 11 consecutive outings. He's tentatively scheduled to face the Orioles early next week.

Buehler (7-7) took the loss Wednesday against the Astros, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks in six innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The four runs allowed were Buehler's most since his June 29 start versus the Blue Jays, although he did manage to toss at least six innings for the fourth time in his last six outings. The 31-year-old veteran right-hander hasn't fanned at least five since June 11 against the Rays, and he's walked multiple batters on eight occasions during this 10-start stretch. Buehler does have a palatable 3.67 ERA across 39 innings since the beginning of July, but his 1.49 WHIP and 19:18 K:BB during this period sets him up as a volatile fantasy option next week at home versus the Orioles.

Buehler (7-6) picked up the win Friday, allowing four hits and two walks over six scoreless innings in a 10-2 rout of the Padres. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
A four-run fourth inning by the Red Sox gave Buehler all the offensive support he would need, as the right-hander tossed 60 of 96 pitches for strikes en route to his first win since July 5 and his seventh quality start of the season. Buehler has been inconsistent all year, but he's been able to limit the damage of late. He hasn't given up more than three runs in an outing since the beginning of July, posting a 3.27 ERA over his last 33 innings despite an ugly 1.52 WHIP and 16:14 K:BB. His luck could run out in his next start, however, which lines up to come on the road next week in Houston.

Buehler allowed three runs on nine hits and three walks over 4.1 innings in a no-decision against Houston on Saturday. He didn't notch any strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Given the constant traffic allowed by Buehler, he fared relatively well in allowing just three runs. The right-hander didn't toss any clean innings and had multiple batters reach base against him in all but one of the frames in which he pitched, but only one of the Astros' nine knocks against him -- a first-inning, two-run homer by Christian Walker -- went for extra bases. Buehler was helped by two double plays, but he didn't strike out any batters and got just six whiffs among his 84 pitches (54 strikes). He showed a bit of promise in July when he posted a 3.57 ERA over four starts, but his 12:9 K:BB across 22.2 innings during that month was far from promising, and he still sits at an ugly 5.74 ERA on the season after Saturday's outing.
