The Giants are expected to call up right-hander Waldis Joaquin from Triple-A Fresno. Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News suspects that he will replace the injured Jonathan Sanchez (ankle) on the active roster. Joaquin, 24, has a 3.16 ERA and 25/18 K/BB ratio over 42 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season. While Eric Surkamp or Dan Runzler are potential candidates to take Sanchez's spot in the rotation, Joaquin will presumably function in a middle relief role.
