Nationals assigned RHPs Waldis Joaquin and Jeff Fulchino to minor league camp.
The two right-handed relievers never had much of a chance of cracking the Nationals' Opening Day roster. Both signed non-guaranteed minor league contracts this winter.

Nationals signed RHP Waldis Joaquin to a minor league contract.
The deal also carries an invitation to spring training, where Joaquin will attempt to land a spot in the Nationals' Opening Day bullpen. He posted a 3.44 ERA in 49 2/3 innings this past year at the Triple-A level.

Waldis Joaquin has become a free agent.
Joaquin, 24, cleared waivers after being designated for assignment by the Giants earlier this month. The hard-throwing right-hander appeared in five games as a September call-up, but spent most of the 2011 season with Triple-A Fresno, posting a 3.44 ERA and 27/23 K/BB ratio over 49 2/3 innings. He should find a spring training invite somewhere.

Giants recalled RHP Waldis Joaquin from Triple-A Fresno.
Joaquin made brief major-league appearances in both 2009 and 2010, turning in a 5.87 ERA and 1.96 WHIP in 15 1/3 innings. He was hardly tearing it up for Fresno this season, posting a 3.44 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 27/23 K/BB ratio over 49 2/3 innings. His use figures to be extremely limited out of the Giants bullpen.

The Giants are expected to call up right-hander Waldis Joaquin from Triple-A Fresno.
Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News suspects that he will replace the injured Jonathan Sanchez (ankle) on the active roster. Joaquin, 24, has a 3.16 ERA and 25/18 K/BB ratio over 42 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season. While Eric Surkamp or Dan Runzler are potential candidates to take Sanchez's spot in the rotation, Joaquin will presumably function in a middle relief role.
