Taylor jumped on a hanging knuckle-curve from Sean Hjelle in the top of the fourth and sent it into the stands in center field to extend the Mets' lead to three runs. He then added a two-out, two-run double in the fifth, giving the outfielder his third multi-hit performance of the season. Taylor has proven to be a reliable contributor on offense for New York when his number's been called, batting .349 in April with two homers, 12 RBI and five runs scored.

Getting the start in right field and batting seventh, Taylor reeled off his second multi-hit performance of the season while swiping his second base. The 30-year-old has been outstanding so far as the Mets' fourth outfielder, batting .341 (14-for-41) through 15 appearances with a homer, three runs and 10 RBI, and manager Carlos Mendoza hasn't hesitated to give Taylor consistent playing time in the early part of the season.

Taylor is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against Atlanta.

Taylor recently completed a stretch of five consecutive starts, but his boost in playing time was a byproduct of the Mets facing a left-handed pitcher during that stretch in addition to Brandon Nimmo being limited by a hamstring injury. With Nimmo having since returned to his usual spot in left field and the Mets set to face a third consecutive right-handed starting pitcher Thursday, Taylor has now found himself on the bench for each of those contests.

Taylor will start in right field and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Reds, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Taylor will draw his fifth straight start Sunday, but he still doesn't look as though he'll be in store for a regular role with the Mets. Before Sunday, each of his prior three starts came while Brandon Nimmo was limited to designated-hitter duties or held out of the lineup as he managed a hamstring issue, but Nimmo is back in left field for the series finale in Cincinnati. The righty-hitting Taylor will stick in the lineup versus southpaw Andrew Abbott on Sunday while Starling Marte gets a day out of the field and occupies the DH spot, but Taylor's opportunities against right-handed pitching are still likely to be limited now that Nimmo is healthy again.

Taylor went 2-for-8 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base across both games of Thursday's doubleheader split with the Tigers.

The 30-year-old wound up starting both ends of the twin bill, getting the nod in center field and batting eighth in the matinee before shifting to left field and hitting sixth in the nightcap. There were right-handers on the mound in both games for Detroit, which is an encouraging sign Taylor won't be limited to a short-side platoon role this season as the top outfielder off the bench for the Mets. Through four appearances to begin the 2024 campaign he's batting .214 (3-for-14) and is still looking for his first extra-base hit.

Taylor went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros.

The former Brewer launched a solo shot off J.P. France in the first inning, giving Taylor his first homer of the spring. The 30-year-old is ticketed for a bench spot this season with the Mets and has had a solid camp, batting .296 (8-for-27) with a 2:5 BB:K. Should Taylor get significant playing time in 2024, which isn't out of the question given that neither Starling Marte nor Harrison Bader have played more than 120 games in any of the past three seasons, he could deliver some useful power and speed for fantasy GMs, but his career .239/.294/.451 slash line in the majors highlights his limitations.

Taylor signed a one-year, $2.025 million contract with the Mets on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

Taylor arrived in New York with Adrian Houser through a trade that sent Coleman Crow (elbow) to Milwaukee in December. Taylor slashed .239/.294/.451 in five seasons with the Brewers and projects to serve as a fourth outfielder for the Mets -- much like he was in Milwaukee.

The Mets acquired Taylor and Adrian Houser from the Brewers on Wednesday in exchange for Coleman Crow (elbow), Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

EDGE Analysis

Taylor became expendable for the Brewers when they secured top outfield prospect Jackson Chourio to a pre-debut eight-year, $82 million contract earlier this month. Elbow troubles limited Taylor to 81 major-league games in 2023 and he batted just .234 with a .267 on-base percentage across 243 plate appearances when healthy. The 29-year-old projects to function as a fourth outfielder and bench bat in Queens.

Taylor is starting in right field and batting ninth Tuesday in Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series against the Diamondbacks.

Garrett Mitchell is not on the Brewers' active roster for this best-of-three series versus Arizona, so Sal Frelick will cover center field as Taylor patrols right. Taylor missed some time down the stretch with a hamstring injury, but he ultimately registered a strong .912 OPS across his final 82 plate appearances dating back to the beginning of September.

Taylor is out of the lineup Thursday versus the Cardinals.
