The 28-year-old utility man has never been much of an offensive threat in the majors, but his defensive versatility makes him a valuable bench piece for the A's. In order to make room for Wade on the roster, Nick Allen was optioned to Las Vegas, and Cal Stevenson was designated for assignment Friday.

Wade had a .275/.383/.375 slash line across 25 spring training games but didn't do enough to crack Oakland's Opening Day roster. The veteran infielder played in 67 games for the Angels last season and had a .544 OPS, so he's hardly guaranteed to see time in the majors in 2023.
