The Red Sox activated Thornburg (shoulder) from the 10-day disabled list ahead of Wednesday's game against the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
More than a year and half after he was shipped to Boston from Milwaukee, Thornburg is finally set to make his Red Sox debut. The right-hander was sidelined for the entire 2017 campaign after requiring surgery to address thoracic outlet syndrome and spent the first three months of the current season rehabbing. After incurring no setbacks during an extended rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket, Thornburg shouldn't face any restrictions upon joining the Red Sox. He'll likely have to excel in low-leverage spots out of the bullpen before manager Alex Cora is comfortable using the right-hander as a setup man, the role Boston likely envision him filling in front of Craig Kimbrel when he was acquired. In his last big-league season with the Brewers in 2016, Thornburg posted a 2.15 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 90 strikeouts over 67 frames.

The Red Sox will activate Thornburg (shoulder) from the 10-day disabled list Wednesday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thornburg has seemed to be near a return since May, but his Red Sox debut finally appears imminent. The 29-year-old has not seen the field with Boston since being traded from Milwaukee in December 2016. The right-hander will likely start out in a low or mid-leverage role for the Red Sox bullpen, and has a career 2.87 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 219.2 innings.

Thornburg (shoulder) will likely be activated from the 10-day disabled list within the next few days, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thornburg is close to completing his rehab assignment, at which point he figures to join Boston's bullpen. In his last minor-league outing at Double-A Portland, he allowed one run on two hits while striking out three across two innings. Thornburg hasn't appeared in the big leagues since the 2016 season with Milwaukee.

Thornburg (shoulder) allowed one run on two hits and struck out three over two innings for Double-A Portland on Wednesday, Stephen Hewitt of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thornburg is closing in on the end of his 30-day rehabilitation stint -- his second rehab assignment after the first was shut down -- and the Red Sox still don't know what they have in the right-hander. Wednesday was the first multi-inning outing, and he still hasn't thrown on consecutive days. He's expected to pitch again Friday and then rejoin the Red Sox on Sunday when the team will figure out his next step.

Thornburg will make at least two more rehab appearances before rejoining the Red Sox, Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thornburg will throw two innings Wednesday for Double-A Portland and another inning Saturday for Triple-A Pawtucket. The Red Sox wouldn't commit to bringing him back after that, though, with manager Alex Cora saying the team will "go from there."

Thornburg (shoulder) has yet to throw on back-to-back days, which has caught the attention of manager Alex Cora, Bill Ballou of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
After Thornburg appeared in two games over a three-day stretch, the right-hander has appeared in just three games over the last 11 days. "We need to start treating this like a regular guy in the bullpen. There are going to be days where you don't feel great, and you're going to have to try to grind it out and get three outs," said Cora. "He doesn't want to be in a situation where he comes in, he's active, he pitches on Monday and all of a sudden he's not available for three or four days."

Thornburg (shoulder) threw 23 of his 33 pitches for strikes in two scoreless outings over the weekend at Triple-A Pawtucket, Bill Koch of the Providence Journal reports. "The breaking ball wasn't there, but the velocity was there," manager Alex Cora said. "Repeating his delivery was there. It was a good one for him [on Sunday]."
EDGE Analysis
Thornburg has made three appearances since beginning a new 30-day rehabilitation period after his first rehab stint was cut short as the Red Sox didn't feel he was ready to be activated. The club is confident he'll be ready for the majors at some point during this rehab stint, but they will need to see him pitch consecutive days.

Thornburg (shoulder) began his second rehab stint of the season Tuesday, Brendan McGair of the Pawtucket Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thornburg will embark on a second rehab assignment set to last 30 days. He was returned from his first stint prior to it's expiration date, seeing as he wasn't quite ready to come off the 10-day disabled list. The Red Sox are confident Thornburg will be good to go following the completion of his next minor-league stint.

EDGE Analysis
Thornburg finished his rehab at Triple-A Pawtucket after tossing a scoreless inning and striking out two Tuesday. He appears ready to be activated from the disabled list after returning to the team Friday, although it's unclear as to when the Red Sox will make the move.

Thornburg (shoulder) won't pitch again for Triple- A Pawtucket until Friday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Thornburg joined Pawtucket on Monday and was originally scheduled to pitch back-to-back days before he experienced a dip in velocity during Monday's outing, prompting the Red Sox to push his next rehab appearance to Friday. It's unclear how long this will set him back at this point.
