Smith was outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was claimed off waivers from Seattle less than two weeks ago, but the Rangers have already found an infield-depth upgrade in the form of Phil Gosselin. The 26-year-old has hit just .237/.326/.342 in 89 games in the Pacific Coast League this year, so it seems unlikely he will be added back onto the roster in September.

Smith was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was only with the Rangers for two days, but will head back down to Round Rock with the activation of Jhan Marinez, who was claimed off waivers by the club on Thursday. Although Smith was recently claimed off waivers and called up to the big-league team himself, the infielder could spend the next couple weeks at the Triple-A level until September rolls around, while providing depth for the organization.

Smith was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's Smith's first promotion to the big club since the Rangers picked him up off waivers from the Mariners a little over a week ago. As a glove-first player with an unremarkable .237/.326/.342 slash line in the Pacific Coast League this season, Smith likely doesn't have a future as a big-league regular, but he could be a useful utility infielder off the bench while he's up with the Rangers.

The Rangers claimed Smith off waivers from the Mariners on Sunday, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
Texas immediately optioned Smith to Triple-A Round Rock, where he'll function as organization depth in the middle infield. The 26-year-old, who made his major-league debut with the Mariners earlier this season, has spent the bulk of the campaign at Triple-A Tacoma, producing a .239/.330/.347 slash line across 330 plate appearances. He profiles as a glove-first player and looks destined for a utility role at the big-league level in the long run.

Smith was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Since heading back to Triple-A Tacoma in mid-June, Smith has hit just .207/.321/.279 with one home run and 10 RBI in 33 games. The 26-year-old was DFA'd in order to free up a 40-man roster spot, but will likely remain with the team in Tacoma, presuming he doesn't get claimed off waivers.

Smith was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Jean Segura (ankle) returning from the disabled list Wednesday, Smith was sent back to Tacoma as he was no longer needed as infield depth. He appeared in 10 games during his brief stint with the Mariners, going just 3-for-16 (.188).

Smith went 2-for-5 with a run in Monday's 14-3 win over the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie hadn't reached safely since roping a double in his first major-league at-bat on June 2, but he joined the Mariners' scoring barrage Monday with the first multi-hit effort of his career. Smith projects to return to Triple-A Tacoma upon Jean Segura's return from an ankle injury, with his first reps against big-league pitching likely to serve him well in his ongoing development.

Smith was called up from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
An eighth-round pick in 2013, he will get his first major-league opportunity, replacing Jean Segura (ankle) on the active roster. Smith offers little in terms of power or speed -- he's maxed out at 10 homers and 12 stolen bases in the minors -- but he has shown he can take a walk and is a versatile defender. The 25-year-old will likely see only sporadic opportunities with Taylor Motter expected to serve as the top replacement at shortstop.

Smith was reassigned to minor league camp on Friday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Opening Day looming, the Mariners trimmed their roster down to a final 25 men on Friday and Smith was among the last players reassigned. Though Smith had a strong showing with six extra base hits and a .297 average this spring, the Mariners are set at shortstop at the major league level with the recently acquired Jean Segura in addition to utility man Taylor Motter.

Smith, who doubled his RBI total to eight in Tuesday's 7-6 Cactus League win over the White Sox, is now co-leading the Mariners in that category this spring.
EDGE Analysis
Smith has drawn even with the red-hot Guillermo Heredia for the top spot and put together his stellar outing Tuesday on the strength of a run-scoring double and third-inning three-run home run. Despite an 0-for-2 day on Wednesday against the Dodgers, Smith's line still stands at .324/.343/.647 with three doubles, a triple, two homers, eight RBI, one walk and eight runs over 34 at-bats.
