Ivey is attempting a return to baseball after retiring in May of 2022, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ivey was a prospect of note several years ago with the Astros, making one appearance for them back in 2021. However, injuries to his pitching arm and a lack of passion for the game steered him toward retirement. Now 28 and feeling healthy, Ivey is trying a comeback following an impromptu start for a collegiate summer league team convinced him he might be able to pull it off. The Astros retain Ivey's contractual rights and figure to assign him to a lower minor-league affiliate initially as he eases back into things.

Ivey cleared waivers Sunday and was outrighted to Triple-A Sugar Land, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
After being designated for assignment by the Astros on Friday, Ivey will remain in the organization. The righty made four appearances (three starts) in Sugar Land last year and posted a 4.91 ERA and 2.00 WHIP in 11 innings.

Ivey was designated for assignment by the Astros on Thursday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ivey was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land in late March, and he'll now lose his spot on the 40-man roster as the regular season gets underway. The 25-year-old should remain in Sugar Land if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

The Astros optioned Ivey to Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ivey, who made a 4.2-inning spot start for the Astros last May before spending the rest of the season in the minors, is expected to slot into the Sugar Land rotation to begin 2022 after missing out on a spot on Houston's Opening Day roster.

Ivey (elbow) allowed three runs (zero earned) on two hits and two walks while striking out two over 1.2 innings for Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
This was Ivey's second rehab appearance, eight days after he threw in a Gulf Coast League game. The right-hander is currently on the 60-day injured list and does not figure to be part of Houston's postseason roster.

Ivey (elbow) began a rehab assignment for the Astros' FCL affiliate Saturday, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ivey made his major-league debut in late May but has been shut down with a nerve issue in his elbow ever since that appearance. He's unlikely to be fully built up by the end of the season, but it's certainly a positive that he's able to pitch in some capacity.

The Astros transferred Ivey (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Monday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
The transaction clears up a 40-man roster spot for utility man Jacob Wilson, whom Houston claimed off waivers from Oakland in a corresponding move. Ivey has already been ruled out for the remainder of the season after he was diagnosed with a nerve issue in his right elbow following his big-league debut May 21, so the move to the 60-day IL won't affect his timeline for a return.

Ivey will miss the rest of the season due to a nerve issue in his elbow, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
He had apparently been pitching hurt for quite some time and finally spoke up about it since nothing was working for him. While he suffered a Grade 1 UCL strain in 2019, there is reportedly no damage to his UCL this time around. However, Ivey may require Thoracic Outlet Syndrome surgery, which is a very significant procedure for a pitcher. The best-case scenario is that he is healthy for spring training next year, but he could be sidelined longer than that.

Ivey gave up four earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out three in 4.2 innings Friday against the Rangers. He did not factor into the decision and was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land after the game, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
It was a spot start for Ivey, and the Astros won't need a fifth starter again until June 1 against Boston, at which point Jake Odorizzi (forearm) and/or Jose Urquidy (shoulder) could be activated from the injured list. The 25-year-old righty had given up five runs and five walks in 6.1 innings at Triple-A prior to getting the call, so he has some refinement left to do on the farm.

Ivey was called up Wednesday by the Astros and will start Friday's game against the Rangers, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ivey has allowed five earned runs in 6.1 innings across two minor-league games this season. Widely considered one of the Astros' top prospects, the righty will be making his big-league debut Friday.
