Barnhart's agent, Steve Rath, announced Sunday that the 34-year-old catcher wil retire from professional baseball, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Barnhart hit .241/.318/.351 over parts of 12 major-league seasons, earning two Gold Glove awards during his eight seasons with the Reds. He had re-signed with the Rangers on a minor-league deal earlier this month, posting a .515 OPS in 11 games at Triple-A Round Rock before electing to call it quits.

The Rangers re-signed Barnhart to a minor-league contract Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Barnhart elected free agency earlier this week after being removed from the Rangers' 40-man roster, but he's back in the organization on a restructured deal. The 34-year-old will provide catching depth.

Barnhart cleared waivers and elected free agency Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran backstop was designated for assignment by the Rangers over the weekend and won't stick in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. Barnhart appeared in eight games during his month in the majors with Texas and went 3-for-13 with a walk.

The Rangers designated Barnhart for assignment Sunday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 34-year-old was added to the big-league roster in late April and appeared in just eight games during his time in the majors, going 3-for-13 with a walk in 15 plate appearances. Barnhart will have the option to elect free agency if he passes through waivers unclaimed.

The Rangers selected Barnhart's contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Barnhart will join the major-league roster for the first time this season to provide Texas with some depth behind the plate while Kyle Higashioka nurses a hamstring injury. Barnhart owns just a .541 OPS in the majors since 2022 but has shown more promise in the minors this year with a .246/.354/.391 slash line through 89 plate appearances.

Barnhart signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Saturday that includes an invitation to spring training, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Barnhart slashed just .173/.287/.210 over 96 plate appearances with the Diamondbacks last season before being cut at the end of June, and his performance didn't improve at all after he signed a minor-league deal with Cincinnati in August. The 33-year-old backstop will now get another chance to turn things around with the Rangers, though his chances of suddenly breaking out offensively are slim.

The Reds signed Barnhart to a minor-league contract on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Barnhart was released by the Diamondbacks in early July, and after spending a month in free agency, the 33-year-old catcher has finally found a home. He'll return to a Reds organization which he spent the first 13 years of his professional career with after being selected in the 10th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft. Considering Cincinnati isn't very thin at the catcher position, Barnhart doesn't have a clear path to big-league at-bats. He should be expected to report to Triple-A Louisville.

The Diamondbacks released Barnhart on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Barnhart predictably passed through waivers after being designated for assignment and is now officially a free agent. The veteran catcher should be able to find work elsewhere but is likely to have to accept a minor-league contract.

Barnhart was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Sunday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Barnhart will now be placed on waivers and the other 29 teams in the league will have an opportunity to claim him. The catcher has produced a .173 average with two doubles, six RBI, 13 runs scored and a stolen base over 81 at-bats in 31 games with Arizona this season. With Barnhart's disappointing output at the plate this year, he'll be the odd man out with Gabriel Moreno (thumb) expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. Jose Herrera will operate as the primary backup behind Moreno at catcher with the Diamondbacks.

Barnhart isn't in the Diamondbacks' lineup for Saturday's game versus Oakland.
EDGE Analysis
The switch-hitting Barnhart owns just a .290 OPS this season against left-handed pitching, so he'll take a seat Saturday as the A's send southpaw Hogan Harris to the mound. Jose Herrera will fill in behind the dish and bat ninth.
