The veteran shortstop's nightmarish season enjoyed a rare bright spot Tuesday, a development Giants starter Matt Cain facilitated. Tulo continued his career-long success against the veteran righty, blasting a second-inning solo shot that was his sixth homer against Cain in their respective careers. He added a seventh-inning sacrifice fly that plated Michael Saunders, and then doubled in Ezequiel Carrera in the ninth with two outs. Despite the banner night, the 31-year-old is still below the Mendoza Line at .178, but does have two homers and six RBI over the first nine games of May.

Nothing is currently pointing toward Tulowitzki losing playing time, but the veteran shortstop has gotten off to a putrid .163 start at the plate this season, which could be a factor into him being left out of Friday's lineup. Ryan Goins will take his place at shortstop, with Darwin Barney slotting into to Goins' normal spot at second base.

Although the veteran doesn't appear to be in danger of losing his starting job anytime soon, members of the Blue Jays' front office are "concerned" about Tulowizki's slow start, ESPN reports.

Tulowitzki ($20 million) is the team's highest-paid player while hitting a pathetic .160 with the eighth-most strikeouts (33) in the league. Although it's still early in the season, his 100 at-bats is a large enough sample size to raise some red flags. The shortstop is owed $20 million annually until 2019, before a $14 million payday in 2020 and a $15 million club option ($4 million buyout) in the following campaign.
