The Angels placed Watson on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a left calf strain, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Watson hadn't pitched since Wednesday while managing the calf injury, and after failing to show much improvement, the Angels elected to deactivate him. James Hoyt was recalled from the taxi squad in a corresponding move to give the Angels a fresh arm out of the bullpen.

Watson (1-0) recorded a one-out win Monday against the Astros after retiring the only batter he faced.
EDGE Analysis
Watson entered the game in the top of the seventh inning with two outs, and he retired Yordan Alvarez on a groundout to pick up his first win of the campaign. Watson has posted two scoreless appearances this season, allowing one hit with a walk and a strikeout across two innings.

Watson signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Angels on Monday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Watson opted out of his minor-league deal with Philadelphia a few days earlier after it became evident that he wouldn't make the Opening Day roster. He'll provide the Angels depth for a bullpen that isn't at full strength heading into the regular season.

Watson opted out of his minor-league deal with the Phillies on Friday, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
EDGE Analysis
Watson looked to have a good chance to open the season as one of the top lefties in the Phillies' bullpen, but he's evidently failed to impress this spring. His 7:2 K:BB in five Grapefruit League innings was strong, but he also allowed five runs (four earned) on nine hits. Jose Alvarado and JoJo Romero will open the year as likely the only southpaws in the Philadelphia bullpen.

Watson agreed Wednesday with the Phillies on a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to MLB spring training, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Despite being one of baseball's more reliable lefty relievers over the past decade and coming off a 2020 campaign in which he turned in a 2.50 ERA and 0.89 WHIP over 21 appearances with the Giants, Watson was unable to fetch a guaranteed deal in free agency. The 35-year-old should still be in good position to win a spot in the Phillies' Opening Day bullpen, though he likely won't merit much consideration for save chances with Archie Bradley, Hector Neris, Jose Alvarado and Brandon Kintzler all possessing previous closing experience.

Watson notched a save Tuesday against the Mariners after tossing a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit.
EDGE Analysis
Watson threw 12 of his 17 pitches for strikes and, even though he allowed a two-out single to Kyle Lewis, he slammed the door after Kyle Seager grounded out for the final out of the game. Watson has gone 2-for-2 in save opportunities this season and should remain as the team's primary closer moving forward if he keeps tossing the ball like he has done it all year long. He owns a 0.64 ERA and has allowed just one earned run in 14 innings across 16 appearances.

Watson notched the save Saturday against the Diamondbacks after tossing a scoreless ninth inning.
EDGE Analysis
Watson threw nine of his 13 pitches for strikes Saturday en route to his first save of the season. He hasn't allowed any runs over his last 10 appearances out of the bullpen, notching five holds, a win, a save and a 0.58 WHIP in that stretch. In fact, Watson has given up just one run all season and has an excellent 0.75 ERA in 14 appearances in 2020.

Watson (1-0) pitched a third of an inning and earned the win in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Diamondbacks.
EDGE Analysis
After starter Johnny Cueto gave up a solo home run to Eduardo Escobar and walked Jake Lamb, Watson was brought in with two outs in the seventh inning. Watson managed to pick off Lamb to end the threat, and the Giants took the lead in the eighth to reward the reliever with the win. Through 11 innings, Watson has a sparking 0.82 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and nine strikeouts. He is likely to see late-inning assignments, although he has yet to record a save this season.

Watson pitched a scoreless eighth inning, allowing a walk and striking out one to earn a hold in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks.
EDGE Analysis
Watson was able to protect a 4-2 lead in eighth inning, and Tyler Rogers was perfect for the save in the ninth. That duo appears to have the inside track for saves this season. Through 10.2 innings this season, Watson has a 0.84 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and 9:2 K:BB across 12 appearances. Rogers has a 5.71 ERA and 1.27 WHIP, but he's also collected two saves to Watson's zero. The 35-year-old Watson has produced six holds, and should continue to see high-leverage work.

Watson has yet to get a save opportunity this season, but he has logged five straight scoreless appearances while collecting three holds over that span.
EDGE Analysis
Trevor Gott opened the year with saves in four of his first five appearances, but he has been dreadful of late, giving up 11 earned runs while blowing two saves over his last 1.1 innings, so he is seemingly out as the Giants' closer. Watson could be the next man up, but Tyler Rogers has a similar scoreless streak and is 1-for-2 on save chances this season. If it is a committee, it may be tricky to extract value from the situation, but it's possible one of Watson, Rogers or a dark horse candidate could emerge now that Gott has seemingly pitched himself out of the ninth inning.
