Santillan was called up by Cincinnati on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Santillan has struck out 30 batters in 23.1 innings at the highest level this season but owns a mediocre 4.24 ERA. He'll take the bullpen spot that had been occupied by Heath Hembree, who was designated for assignment.

Santillan was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander covered 3.2 scoreless frames in his past three outings, but he'll head back to Triple-A with Michael Lorenzen (hamstring) returning from the injured list. Santillan will continue working as a reliever with Louisville and could rejoin Cincinnati's bullpen down the stretch.

Santillan struck out three while allowing one hit over 1.2 innings Monday against the Cubs, coming on in relief of starter Wade Miley.
EDGE Analysis
Santillan had a couple of rough outings after the All-Star break, but he's thrown three scoreless outings with at least two strikeouts in a row now. That doesn't seem like too much, but it might be enough to put him in a higher-leverage spot in his next time out.

Santillan was recalled by the Reds on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Santillan will be taking the roster spot that had belonged to Sonny Gray (ribs), who hit the injured list in a corresponding move. It doesn't look as though he'll be taking Gray's spot in the rotation, however, as Gray just pitched Wednesday and won't see his turn come up again until after the All-Star break. Santillan is unlikely to have much fantasy value as a reliever, as his solid 3.78 ERA in four starts this season comes with a roughly average 24.4 percent strikeout rate and a poor 1.68 WHIP.

Santillan was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The 24-year-old gave up three runs (two earned) over three innings Tuesday and will head to the minors with Sonny Gray (groin) slated to rejoin the rotation this weekend. According to C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic, Santillan is expected to rejoin the Reds and work out of the bullpen after spending the required 10 days in the minors.

Santillan (1-2) allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out four across three innings to take the loss Tuesday against San Diego.
EDGE Analysis
Santillan avoided disaster in the final outcome of his start, but he allowed multiple baserunners in all three innings that he worked. As a result, he needed 75 pitches to record his nine outs and has now failed to complete five innings in three of his four big-league starts. In total, Santillan has allowed seven earned runs across 16.2 innings with a 20:10 K:BB. With Sonny Gray (groin) projected to return to the rotation shortly, Santillan's role with the big-league club could set to change.

Santillan (1-1) allowed one earned run on three hits and three walks while striking out eight across six innings, earning the win over Atlanta on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Freddie Freeman got to Santillan early with a solo home run in the first inning. Other than that, it was smooth sailing for the rookie as he cruised to post a quality start in his first MLB win. The 24-year-old struck out eight batters in his third start, doubling his season total. He lowered his ERA to 3.29 over 13.2 innings. His next scheduled start is for Tuesday against the Padres.

Santillan (0-1) pitched only three innings while taking the loss in Friday's defeat to the Padres, allowing three runs on four hits, including two homers. He walked one and struck out three. He was lifted for a pinch hitter in the fourth inning with the Reds trying to tie the game with two outs.
EDGE Analysis
Manager David Bell went with the quick hook in this one to tie the game up, but it didn't work out, and then the Reds' bullpen got pounded for five runs afterward.

Santillan is scheduled to make his second start Friday against the Padres in San Diego.
EDGE Analysis
Neither Sonny Gray (groin) nor Jeff Hoffman (shoulder) will be ready to return from the 10-day injured list when the Reds next require a fifth starter Friday, so Santillan will be awarded another turn through the rotation after a so-so MLB debut against Colorado over the weekend. Though he limited the Rockies to one run, efficiency was an issue for Santillan, who pumped in only 52 of his 97 pitches for strikes while failing to make it out of the fifth inning. He'll need to show better control against a strong Padres offense if he hopes to continue keeping runs off the board.

RP CIN
Santillan didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Rockies after giving up one run on five hits and four walks while fanning five across 4.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Santillan ended just one out away from securing the win in his MLB debut, though removing him with one out left in the fifth was probably the right decision considering he had walked two while also hitting Trevor Story in that same inning. Despite the command issues, it was a decent debut for Santillan, who took advantage of a favorable matchup against the Rockies away from Coors Field. He's expected to make another start next week and, tentatively, he'd line up to pitch in a far tougher matchup against the Padres on the road.
