The Braves released Coffey on Friday, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Coffey was given a chance to make the club this spring, but he did not do enough to make a cut, and the Braves decided to give him a chance to pursue other opportunities.

Coffey agreed to a minor league contract with the Braves on Wednesday that includes an invite to spring training, Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reports.Coffey will join fellow veterans Jose Veras and Matt Capps (among others) in the competition for a bullpen spot in the spring, after posting a 1.93 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 8.2 K/9 in 36 appearances with the Mariners' Triple-A Tacoma affiliate last season. He did benefit from a .264 BABIP and 86.5% strand rate in 2014, however, which helped mask his post-Tommy John control issues. It's hard to imagine he'll be entrusted with many high-leverage innings in Atlanta.

Coffey was released by the Mariners on Thursday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports. Coffey was 4-1 with a 1.93 ERA over 37.1 innings from Triple-A Tacoma this season, and although he was clearly MLB-ready, the Mariners are currently working with a relatively crowded bullpen. Granting Coffey his release will allow him to sign with another potential playoff team that may actually be able to use his services down the stretch.

Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports that the Mariners have signed right-handed reliever Todd Coffey to a minor league contract, pending a physical. Coffey missed all of last season following Tommy John surgery, but he impressed scouts during a throwing session last week. The 33-year-old could be a useful bullpen piece for Seattle.

According to Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan, scouts in attendance at Todd Coffey's showcase Wednesday were impressed with the right-hander's throwing. Passan said Coffey's fastball hit 91-92 mph with a slider between 82 and 84 mph. Coffey is coming off his second Tommy John surgery, a procedure that forced him to miss the entire 2013 season. Passan said Coffey could have a contract by the weekend.

According to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish, free agent reliever Todd Coffey will have a showcase for interested teams on Wednesday in Arizona. Coffey threw for teams in January and didn't get an offer, but is apparently closer to 100 percent strength here in mid-May. He underwent Tommy John surgery in July 2012 and sat out the entire 2013 season.

According to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish, there are 9-10 teams showing interest in free agent Todd Coffey. Cotillo's source says Coffey has been hitting 91-92 mph with his fastball in recent bullpen sessions and expects to be in the 93-94 mph range by next week. The veteran right-hander threw for more than a dozen teams in January and didn't get an attractive offer, but his market appears to be improving as Opening Day approaches. He underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in July 2012 and sat out the 2013 season.

Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish hears that at least nine teams want to see a second throwing session from Todd Coffey. Coffey threw for 14 teams Friday, and it went well enough that the majority are interested in an encore. It's still unknown which teams were in attendance and which are in for a second viewing. The 33-year-old is working to return from Tommy John surgery, the second time he's undergone the procedure in his career. Coffey last pitched for the Dodgers during the 2012 season.

Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that "up to 21 teams" could be in attendance at Todd Coffey's showcase for MLB teams on January 17 in Arizona. Coffey has missed the last year and a half of action while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The 33-year-old last pitched for the Dodgers in 2012, posting a 4.66 ERA over 23 appearances. Coffey won't cost much more than a cheap cup of joe, as the best he could hope for is a minor league offer.
