Melville agreed to a contract July 12 with the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions of the Chinese Professional Baseball League, CPBLStats.com reports.

After being waived by the Rockies in May, Melville elected to head overseas when he failed to receive a spot in the 60-man roster pool of any of MLB's other 29 teams. Melville made seven starts for Colorado in the second half of the 2019 season, posting a 4.86 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 24:14 K:BB in 33.1 innings.

Though he's seemingly healthy again, the Rockies weren't interested in keeping him in the fold and will allow him to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

The timeline means that Melville could still be ready to go by Opening Day, as that's still a little over six weeks away. He's unlikely to spend that day on the big-league roster even if healthy, however, as he's not a member of the 40-man roster and owns a 6.75 ERA and a 7.63 FIP in 48 career major-league innings.

Melville was outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday.

Melville recorded a decent 4.86 ERA in seven starts for the Rockies last season. That number came with a 6.63 FIP, however, so it's no surprise that the 30-year-old passed through waivers unclaimed.

Melville took a no-decision during Wednesday's loss to the Giants, giving up one run on four hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts across five innings.

It was a strong outing for the right-hander, who surrendered his only run of the night via an RBI single by Kevin Pillar in the third inning. Melville closes out the season with a 2-3 record, 4.86 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 24:14 K:BB across seven starts.

Melville (2-3) took the loss against the Mets on Tuesday, giving up four earned runs on six hits over 5.2 innings, striking out two and walking one as the Rockies fell 6-1.

Melville's final line wasn't disastrous, but he was done in by the long ball, serving up three homers to Amed Rosario, Brandon Nimmo and Pete Alonso and ultimately getting hit with his third loss of the season. The 29-year-old has a 5.40 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 22:12 K:BB in his six big-league starts this season.

Melville (2-2) allowed five earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one across three innings to take the loss Thursday against the Cardinals.

Melville was sunk by the long ball, as he surrendered four home runs in his three innings of work. While he's now gotten hit hard at home in each of his last two outings -- he's allowed 10 earned runs in five innings -- Melville has pitched very well on the road, yielding just three earned runs across 12.2 frames. However, his next scheduled start is currently Tuesday at home against the Mets.

Melville (2-1) picked up the win against the Padres on Friday, striking out eight while allowing two runs on five hits and a pair of walks across 5.2 innings.

EDGE Analysis

The right-hander held the Padres scoreless until the third inning, when he gave up a two-run single to Eric Hosmer. That would be the only damage of the night for the Padres as Melville punched out a career-high eight batters to pick up his second win of the year. The 29-year-old, who was called up August 21 to replace Jon Gray (foot), now owns a 3.66 ERA and 1.42 WHIP across four appearances. He'll take the hill next on Thursday against the Cardinals.

Melville (1-1) took the loss Saturday as the Rockies fell 11-4 to the Pirates, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks over only two innings. He struck out one.

EDGE Analysis

After two excellent starts to begin his stint in the Colorado rotation, Melville simply didn't have it Saturday -- Kevin Newman took him deep on the first pitch he threw, and it was downhill from there. The right-hander still has a 3.21 ERA since his promotion, but his 1.43 WHIP and 11:7 K:BB through 14 innings suggests he's been more lucky than good. Melville will next take the mound Friday in San Diego.

Melville tossed five scoreless innings while allowing five hits with three walks and six strikeouts during a no-decision against the Braves on Monday.

EDGE Analysis

Unfortunately, Melville didn't earn the win because the Rockies scored just one run and blew their small lead in the ninth. However, the 29-year-old has been impressive through two starts, yielding just one run in 12 frames. He is 1-0 with a 0.75 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 10 strikeouts during those two outings. One would think Melville has earned another start, and his turn in the rotation will pop up again Saturday at home against the Pirates.
