Pimentel cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. Pimentel was designated for assignment Wednesday, and has passed through waivers unclaimed. The 25-year-old reliever allowed five runs over 11.1 innings with the Rangers, but was replaced in the pen by Sam Freeman.

Pimentel (lower body) was activated from the 15-day DL on Monday. Pimentel hit the DL in mid-August with lower body soreness but will return Monday after missing just over the minimum 15 days required by his stint. The 24-year-old has posted a 5.40 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 31.2 innings with the big club this season, and will likely work exclusively in low-leverage/mop-up duty over the remainder of the regular season.

Pimentel will be placed on the disabled list Friday with lower body soreness, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburg Tribune-Review reports. It's not clear what type of setback Pimentel is dealing with, but he was tagged for six earned runs over his last three outings, and the injury helps explain his struggles. John Axford, who was acquired by the Pirates on Thursday, will take Pimentel's spot in the bullpen.

Pirates activated RHP Stolmy Pimentel from the 15-day disabled list. Pimentel missed over a month of action with inflammation in his pitching shoulder. All six of the right-hander's appearances this season in the majors have been in relief, but he could conceivably be an option to stretch out and fill in for the injured Francisco Liriano (oblique).
