He's added two home runs, five RBI, 18 runs scored and a stolen base. Kwan can still chip in a bit more with speed, but he's doing everything else right from atop the Guardians' order.

Kwan logged multiple hits for the third game in a row and the fifth time in eight contests this season. The outfielder is batting a stellar .385 with a home run, three RBI and 10 runs scored over eight contests at the top of a surprisingly productive Guardians lineup. Some of his success comes from it being early in the season, but Kwan hit .298 as a rookie in 2022 before dropping to .268 last season -- he's on track for a better showing if he can avoid lengthy slumps in 2024.

Kwan's also struck out five times, which is unusual for a hitter with a good reputation for plate discipline, but he's been hitting well enough to not make that a concern early in the campaign. The 26-year-old is locked in as the Guardians' leadoff hitter.

Kwan remains a lock for the leadoff spot, and he's opened the season 3-for-10 with three runs scored over two games. He's also struck out twice, which is uncommon since he struck out at a 10.4 percent rate (75 strikeouts over 718 plate appearances) last season. Kwan should continue to offer solid contact-hitting skills and a bit of speed, but he's not a significant power source, having hit just 11 homers over his first two big-league seasons combined.

Kwan is 3-for-11 over his first four Cactus League games.

EDGE Analysis

Kwan is about the only sure thing in the Guardians' outfield this spring, as he should be a lock to start in left field. His second big-league season was a little worse than his rookie year -- he slashed .268/.340/.370 in 2023. Kwan is a contact-over-power hitter with a good eye at the plate (9.9 percent walk rate, 10.4 percent strikeout rate in 2023). He should also offer a speed threat after going 40-for-48 on the basepaths over his first two campaigns.
