Shawn Kelley (elbow) had a successful simulated game Saturday. Kelly threw two 15-pitch simulated innings and said he "felt normal." Kelley had a setback six weeks ago in his recovery from partial Tommy John surgery, so the M's are hesitant to set a timetable with him. "I was really pleased with his command," pitching coach Carl Willis said. "He hadn't faced hitters for six weeks or so. He threw all of his pitches and commanded the ball well. We're going to see how he feels tomorrow and determine on whether he goes another (simulated) game, or we want to start him back on his rehab assignment."

Shawn Kelley (elbow) on Thursday threw his first bullpen session since undergoing partial Tommy John surgery. "I threw my first bullpen (session) from the rubber (Thursday), 27 fastballs, and feel great today," Kelley said. "On Sunday I'll throw a full bullpen - I'll throw sliders and change-ups along with fastballs." Kelley is expected to need an additional bullpen session after Sunday and then a simulated game before going out on a rehab assignment. The M's hope to have him back by mid-August.
