Lugo retired all six batters he faced and recorded two strikeouts to earn the save during Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander was pounding the strikezone Wednesday, as he delivered 15 of his 19 pitches for strikes and made quick work of Washington. The closer's role remains in flux following Edwin Diaz's rough start to the season, but Lugo is in prime position to potentially secure the job with his 2.57 ERA, 0.57 WHIP and 7:1 K:BB through seven innings.

Lugo (1-1) allowed one run on one hit and one walk while failing to record a strikeout over 0.2 innings as he was charged with the loss Friday against Atlanta.
EDGE Analysis
Lugo was called on in a jam in the bottom of the eighth inning Friday and nearly got the Mets out of it, but he allowed a two-run double to Travis d'Arnaud that brought in two runs and put the 30-year-old in line for the loss and the blown save. Despite Friday's loss, the righty still carries fantasy upside as he's in the conversation to take over closing duties for the Mets once again this year.

Lugo could move into the Mets' full-time closer role after Luis Rojas announced Thursday that there will be discussions regarding Edwin Diaz's usage in high leverage situations moving forward, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lugo surrendered a solo home run in his latest outing against the Red Sox, but that marks the right-hander's lone blemish in 4.1 innings pitched on the campaign. If the Mets do indeed decide to move away from Diaz in the ninth, Lugo seems to be the top candidate to receive the bulk of save opportunities in the coming weeks.

Lugo earned his first save of the season, pitching a perfect 1.1 innings with one strikeout in Monday's 7-4 win over the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Lugo was able to finish the eighth inning with a runner on first by striking out Christian Vazquez. The right-hander then induced three groundouts to complete the save in the ninth. With regular closer Edwin Diaz faltering in his last outing Saturday versus the Braves, Lugo's strong start to 2020 could see him in the mix for more saves going forward.

Lugo (1-0) tossed two scoreless innings Friday, allowing one run and no walks while striking out three as he earned the win against the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
Jacob deGrom went five innings without allowing a run Friday, and Lugo was able to preserve the shutout over two innings of middle relief. Lugo picked up the win after the Mets put the only run of the game on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning. The 30-year-old could be put into more similar middle relief situations over the first few turns through the rotation as the starters build up to a full workload. The right-hander picked up seven wins and six saves over 61 relief appearances last season while posting a 2.70 ERA and 0.90 WHIP.

Lugo could be the pitcher the Mets call on most early in the season if any starters are on limited pitch counts, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
While the team doesn't intend to make any drastic changes to its current five-man rotation, GM Brodie Van Wagenen suggested Monday that the Mets could be a lot more flexible with bullpen roles. "We also have some high-velocity, high-stuff bullpen guys," he said. "We may see shorter starts from some pitchers early on in the year, and we may see bullpen arms in pitching situations earlier than maybe they otherwise have been accustomed to. We're going to use (the bullpen) with the mindset that every out counts, not just every inning." Lugo, as the one "high-velocity, high-stuff" reliever used to tossing multiple innings in an outing, seems the most likely candidate to move out of a setup role and instead take the mound in the middle innings if someone like Steven Matz or Michael Wacha exits early. Such usage would make Lugo -- who recorded seven wins, six saves and 21 holds in 60 appearances last season -- a prime candidate to vulture wins during the shortened campaign.

Lugo did not feel his fractured left pinkie toe during his return to the mound Monday against the Marlins, Justin Toscano of The Bergen Record reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lugo threw a scoreless inning, striking out one batter, in his first taste of Grapefruit League action. He should have time to build up to regular-season shape by Opening Day given that he's entering the season as a reliever.

Lugo (toe) is scheduled to make his Grapefruit League debut Monday against the Marlins, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lugo's spring debut has been delayed by a fractured left pinkie toe, but the injury doesn't look like anything that will prevent him from being ready for Opening Day. The right-hander already proved his health by completing a 29-pitch simulated game Thursday without incident.

Lugo (toe) completed a 29-pitch simulated game Thursday and indicated he felt good afterward, Justin Toscano of The Bergen Record reports.
EDGE Analysis
Per Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Mets gave Lugo the option of pitching in Thursday's Grapefruit League road game against the Cardinals, but the veteran reliever chose to stay behind at the team facility to face hitters rather than making the trip to Jupiter, Fla. Lugo will presumably make his spring debut at some point within the next few days, but the fact that he was able to pitch in a competitive environment indicates that he's ready to go after fracturing his left pinkie toe early on during camp.

Lugo (toe) completed a live batting practice session Sunday and says he'll next pitch in Grapefruit League games, Justin Toscano of The Bergen Record reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lugo has been slowed early in spring training by a fractured left pinky toe, but he's apparently ready for games after his first spring action against live hitters Sunday. The 30-year-old figures to retake the mound sometime this week and should not have any issues being ready for Opening Day.
