Brown found himself without a spot on the 26-man roster following last week's acquisitions of Starling Marte and Josh Harrison, but the outfielder will now head back to Oakland to take the roster spot of Ramon Laureano (suspension). Brown holds an underwhelming .199/.277/.435 slash line on the season, but he did hit a much better .240/.340/.561 in July prior to his demotion. The 29-year-old will likely serve as a reserve outfielder, possibly getting occasional starts against right-handers going forward.

The Athletics optioned Brown to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday.

Brown's playing time in the corner outfield had already been trending down after Oakland's recent acquisition of Starling Marte from Miami, and now Brown will lose out on a spot on the 26-man active roster.
