Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker reports that Sergio Mitre is in camp on a trial basis with the Rakuten Golden Eagles in Japan. The 32-year-old right-hander hasn't pitched in the Major Leagues since the 2011 season when he was a member of the Yankees. He isn't quite ready to hang em' up yet though, so he'll look to rebuild his value in Japan before perhaps coming back stateside.

According to Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors, Sergio Mitre plans to throw for MLB teams in March or April. Mitre was limited to two appearances after the All-Star break last year due to a shoulder injury, but he intends to pitch this season. The 31-year-old right-hander owns a 5.21 ERA over 143 appearances (64 starts) in the majors.

Sergio Mitre will see Dr. James Andrews on Sunday about a pinched nerve in his right shoulder. Mitre was placed on the disabled list last month with right shoulder tendinitis and was diagnosed with a pinched nerve following an MRI. He believes surgery is 90 percent probable.

Mitre was designated for assignment Monday, so the Brewers have 10 days to trade, release or send him to the minors. For what it's worth, Dierkes believes that Mitre "has a good chance of being traded." The 30-year-old right-hander has a 3.27 ERA and 14/10 K/BB ratio over 33 innings this season.
