Sean Doolittle will not throw for the next few days while nursing a right calf strain. It shouldn't be a big deal as long as he doesn't have any setbacks. Fellow bullpen mate Ryan Cook (shoulder) is also banged up, but the A's are expecting to have both he and Doolittle in time for Opening Day.

Sean Doolittle earned his second save of the season in Friday's victory over the Rangers. It was Doolittle, not Grant Balfour, who was called upon to protect a one-run advantage. Don't read too much into it though, as Balfour was up and ready in the bullpen. A's manager Bob Melvin indicated he wanted Doolittle in there to face the left-handed hitters coming up, and didn't want to waste him for just one hitter.

Sean Doolittle retired the Royals in order in the eighth inning Saturday, picking up his seventh hold. Those of you in holds league already know Doolittle. Those of you in deeper formats should get acquainted with him as well, if you haven't already. Doolittle is 3-0 with a 0.95 ERA, 0.58 WHIP and 19/3 K/BB rate over 20 appearances. Doolittle surrendered a pair of solo homers in late-April. Outside of that, nobody has touched him.

Sean Doolittle struck out three of the four batters he faced in 1 1/3 innings of work Friday against the Orioles. 16 of Doolittle's 19 pitches were strikes. With a 1.04 ERA and nine strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings, he's again looking like one of the game's best setup men.

Sean Doolittle may not be available Wednesday after he was hit in the left shin by a comebacker during Tuesday's game. Doolittle is still dealing with some discomfort, so the A's will likely rest him just to be on the safe side. The rookie left-hander has a 3.62 ERA and 47/8 K/BB ratio over 32 1/3 innings this year.

With Ryan Cook needing the night off, Sean Doolittle got the call in the ninth Saturday and protected a one-run lead against the Yankees for his first career save. Doolittle allowed a leadoff single to Alex Rodriguez, but he struck out the next three batters he faced in an impressive debut. Cook's status as Oakland's closer is secure at the moment, but Doolittle possesses the best stuff in the team's pen. He's certainly going to be a sleeper candidate for saves next year.

Athletics recalled LHP Sean Doolittle from Triple-A Sacramento. Doolittle, a converted infielder, posted a dominant 0.72 ERA and 48/7 K/BB ratio over 25 innings between High-A Stockton, Double-A Midland and Triple-A Sacramento. Look for him in middle relief. Jordan Norberto was placed on the 15-day disabled list in a corresponding roster move.

Making his pitching debut for the A's, Sean Doolittle struck out two in a hitless frame Sunday against the Cubs. Doolittle's chances of making it as a hitter were ruined by knee problems, but he's been throwing in the mid-90s since a move to the mound. He might turn into a nifty reliever after getting some innings under his belt.
