Sean Doolittle worked a perfect 10th inning to pick up his sixth save of the season in Tuesday's win over the Yankees. The A's put up a three-spot in the top of the tenth, removing almost all pressure on Doolittle to convert the save. The lefty got a weak pop up, a strikeout, and a weak ground out in the frame. Doolittle hasn't allowed a run since April 26 and now has a 2.67 ERA, 0.74 WHIP, and a 39/1 K/BB ratio in 27 innings.

Sean Doolittle picked up his fifth save of the season on Sunday, striking out all three hitters he faced in the ninth inning. Doolittle has been a force out of the A's bullpen this season, registering a 2.77 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 38/1 K/BB ratio over 26 innings. The hard-throwing southpaw looks poised to lock down the closer's job for a considerable amount of time and should be started in all mixed leagues at this point.

Sean Doolittle picked up his fourth save of the season in Wednesday's win over the Rays. Doolittle struck out a pair in a scoreless ninth. The lefty has settled down after a nightmarish April, now stringing together 10 consecutive scoreless appearances. In those 10 games, Doolittle has struck out 19 and walked one in 11 1/3 innings.

Sean Doolittle struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to earn his third save of the season, closing out the Athletics' 3-0 win over the Rays on Tuesday. Doolittle hadn't issued a free pass all season before feared walking slugger Ryan Hanigan with two outs. It was an otherwise carefree inning of work, as he struck out Evan Longoria and Wil Myers before getting Logan Forsythe to pop out to end the game. He still hasn't allowed a run in 9 1/3 innings in May, lowering his ERA to 3.27. Closer-needy teams should be all over the southpaw by now.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Tuesday that "the way things are setting up, (Sean Doolittle will) be in the closer role." Doolittle closed out the Rays with a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to earn his third save of the season. With a 3.27 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and ridiculous 30/1 K/BB ratio over 22 innings this season, Doolittle has probably been the team's best reliever. He's been unscored upon in his last nine appearances and is certainly good enough to run with the role.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Sean Doolittle is "likely to get around $14 million guaranteed" on his new five-year contract. The A's have options for 2019 and 2020, which could bring the total value of the deal to over $20 million. Locking any reliever up for that long is a risk, but it's a reasonable price to pay. Doolittle should easily be worth the deal if he can manage to stay healthy.

Athletics signed LHP Sean Doolittle to a four-year contract extension. The deal was announced as a five-year contract, but it includes this season. The A's will also have club options for 2019 and 2020. The financials of the contract are not yet known. Doolittle would have been eligible for arbitration for the first time this winter, so the new deal will buy out his arbitration years and possibly his first two years of free agency. Doolittle holds a 3.10 ERA with 129 strikeouts over 125 innings over his first 122 relief appearances for the A's.

Sean Doolittle struck out two over a scoreless ninth inning to earn his first save of the season Sunday against the Mariners. It was just Doolittle's fourth save of his career. The left-hander is part of A's manager Bob Melvin's bullpen-by-committee following Jim Johnson's struggles, so it may not be his last save this year. Still, unless he's explicitly named by Melvin he's likely not a rosterable source of saves.

Sean Doolittle had no issues with his calf during a bullpen session Monday morning in A's camp. Doolittle suffered a right calf strain last week, but he's already back on track. The left-hander will open the 2014 season as one of Oakland's primary setup men.

Sean Doolittle (calf) will throw a bullpen session on Monday. Doolittle has been nursing a right calf strain the last few days but feels much better. "It's time to take the training wheels off," the left-handed reliever said.
