Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the Dodgers have evaluated Scott Rolen as a possible target. Rolen still isn't sure if he'll play in 2013 or retire, but if he does decide to come back, there apparently will at least be a little bit of a market for him. The Reds have also expressed interested in bringing him back, but Rolen would have a better shot at playing time in L.A. The Dodgers are currently slated to go with Luis Cruz at third base in 2013.

Scott Rolen still hasn't decided on retirement. Rolen turns 38 years old in April and registered a weak .698 OPS over the last two seasons in Cincinnati, but the Reds have expressed some amount of openness to bringing him back and the free agent third baseman has yet to officially close any doors on his playing career. John Fay, who is the Reds beat writer for the Cincinnati Enquirer, thinks that Rolen will ultimately call it quits. But Rolen hasn't spoken to the media all offseason.

Scott Rolen has been in "periodic contact" with Reds GM Walt Jocketty, according to MLB.com's Mark Sheldon. "We spoke before the holidays," Jocketty confirmed. "He hasn't decided (on retirement). It could be another week to 10 days." Rolen is 37 years old and hit .245/.318/.398 during the 2012 regular season. But he apparently has the drive to continue his playing career and the Reds apparently have some interest in bringing him back.

According to Danny Knobler of CBS Sports, Scott Rolen has suggested to the Reds that he may want to come to spring training in hopes of playing another season. Knobler writes that the Reds would be "more than happy to give him a chance," as they believe he could help on the field and in the clubhouse. The Reds acquired Jason Donald on Tuesday night and are set to sign Jack Hannahan as a backup to Todd Frazier at third base, so it's hard to see him as a fit with Cincinnati. But he apparently isn't ready to retire yet.

Scott Rolen's agent, Seth Levinson, told John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer that his client is still undecided about whether he'll play in 2013 or retire. Rolen will be 38 in April and wants to take more time before making a decision. He likely would have to accept a one-year deal with a low guarantee and a part-time role.

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com hears that Scott Rolen told the Reds he "may play in 2013 but is not ready to make a decision." Stark adds that the Reds would like him to return in "some role." Todd Frazier is almost certainly penciled in as the regular third baseman no matter what, but it's possible Rolen could be used as a bench bet. Whether or not he would accept such a role remains to be seen. Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported last month that Rolen was expected to retire.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that Scott Rolen is expected to retire this offseason. Nightengale says Rolen is expected to delay the announcement a while, but he anticipates the third baseman to hang up his cleats for good. Rolen was asked about his intentions after striking out to end the NLDS loss to the Giants Thursday but only said that he's "going to go home and be a dad." The 37-year-old has batted .281/.364/.490 with 316 homers and eight Gold Gloves during his 17-year career.

Scott Rolen is back in the Reds' starting lineup for Game 5 of the NLDS on Thursday against the Giants. Todd Frazier got the start in Game 4 on Wednesday, but Reds manager Dusty Baker is turning back to his veteran for this winner-take-all tilt in Cincy. The Reds' starting lineup goes Brandon Phillips, Zack Cozart, Joey Votto, Ryan Ludwick, Jay Bruce, Rolen, Ryan Hanigan and Drew Stubbs. Mat Latos will toe the rubber and bat ninth.

Scott Rolen is not in the starting lineup for Game 4 of the NLDS against the Giants. Todd Frazier had much stronger numbers against southpaws than Rolen during the regular season, so he'll get the nod in Game 4 against Barry Zito. Rolen is 2-for-11 to begin the postseason and made a critical error in Tuesday's Game 3 loss.

Scott Rolen will be the Reds' starting third baseman for Game 1 of the NLDS Saturday vs. the Giants. And Todd Frazier will be available off the bench. Rolen is batting sixth against San Francisco. Brandon Phillips, Zack Cozart, Joey Votto, Ryan Ludwick, Jay Bruce, Ryan Hanigan and Drew Stubbs round out the rest of manager Dusty Baker's Game 1 starting lineup.
