Dyson pitched a scoreless ninth inning without allowing a hit and struck out a batter to earn the save in Friday's win over the Astros.

Dyson retired the middle of the Astros' lineup (Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa and Evan Gattis) to pick up his 31st save this year. Interestingly, the 28-year-old hasn't allowed a run in his last four appearances despite inducing far less ground balls than he did during the his eight previous appearances in August in which he gave up five runs on twelve hits and blew two save opportunities.

Dyson picked up his 30th save with a scoreless ninth in Monday's win over the Mariners.

EDGE Analysis

Since July, Dyson is a solid 14-for-16 in save opportunities with a 2.61 ERA despite a horrible 1.50 WHIP and a mediocre 16:9 K:BB. His relative inability to miss bats compared to the typical modern closer means he's likely to make things interesting on a regular basis down the stretch. Dyson is one of the league's most extreme groundballers, though, with a 62.8 percent groundball rate, and when his sinker is working, he's tough to handle.

EDGE Analysis

Dyson has only held opponents scoreless in four of his last 10 outings, and his ERA has gone from 2.42 to 2.78 this month. He currently has his highest ERA since seeing regular work in 2014.

Dyson threw a perfect ninth inning Wednesday, earning his 28th save of the season in a 6-5 win over the Reds.

EDGE Analysis

Dyson had been a bit shaky entering Wednesday, carrying an August ERA of 5.00 and allowing earned runs in each of his two prior appearances, one of which was a blown save. Dyson has struck out 41 hitters over 57.1 innings in 2016, a noticeable decline in strikeout rate from 2015 where he struck out 71 over 75.1 innings. Yet his ERA remains nearly identical, up just a touch to 2.83 from 2.63.

Dyson gave up three hits, including a two-run home run, and a walk while striking out two in an inning of work Sunday in a non-save situation.

EDGE Analysis

He entered the eighth inning with the Rangers down 6-4 and promptly put the game firmly out of reach. Dyson hadn't pitched in five days, which explains why he got the call with Texas down two runs, but he's also been scored upon in four of his last seven appearances, leading to a 5.63 ERA in August, while blowing two of his last five save chances. If Dyson doesn't clean up his act soon, Jeremy Jeffress could muscle him out of the closer role.

Dyson blew his fourth save of the year, allowing one run on three hits in the ninth inning of Tuesday contest against Oakland.

EDGE Analysis

Dyson has blown two of his last five save chances, and is barely holding off Jeremy Jeffress for the team's closer role. He's managed just one clean inning in seven appearances this month, and has surrendered nine hits and three runs over the seven innings. These are the types of performances that will justify manager Jeff Banister giving Jeffress, who had 25 saves for the Brewers earlier this season, a turn at the gig.

Dyson picked up his 27th save after allowing just one hit with no walks or strikeouts Monday against the Athletics.

EDGE Analysis

Dyson allowed an infield single to Danny Valencia, but quickly vacuumed up the rest of the A's hitters by inducing a double-play grounder from Khris Davis before getting Billy Butler to ground out as well. He has been effective despite a 5.96 K/9 that is extremely low by closers' standards.

Dyson yielded a run but still nailed down his 24th save in a 3-2 victory over the Astros on Saturday.

EDGE Analysis

It was a cheap run, as George Springer went to second on fielder's indifference and then scored on a single, but it counts all the same. Dyson then induced a groundout with the tying run on first to end the game. He is now 24-for-26 in save opportunities and has allowed just two runs since July 1.

Dyson had to work around a hit, but still threw only nine pitches en route to his 23rd save Wednesday against the Orioles.

EDGE Analysis

After getting the vote of confidence from his manager earlier in the day, Dyson went out and converted yet again. He deserves the confidence, too -- since suffering his second blown save back on June 29, Dyson has allowed just one run in 11 appearances (seven saves).

Texas manager Jeff Bannister re-iterated that Dyson will remain the closer despite the acquisition of Jeremy Jeffress at the trade deadline, Ryan Baillargeon of MLB.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Dyson has been heavily used in the first half and the presence of Jeffress should prevent Dyson from appearing in three straight games and the like, but it seems that Dyson will as closer for as long as he remains effective in that role.
