It was a much-needed homer for McMahon, who hadn't recorded an RBI since April 9. During this time, the defensive-minded third baseman has gone a miserable 5-for-65 (.077) with two doubles and seven runs scored over 19 games. McMahon's defensive acumen should keep him in an everyday role at the hot corner, but he's difficult to justify as a fantasy option in deep leagues until he strings together some better performances.

McMahon is not in Colorado's starting lineup against Cincinnati on Sunday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

McMahon has failed to record a hit over his last seven games and has gone 2-for-50 with a 41.7 percent strikeout rate since April 11. Amid his struggles, McMahon will begin Sunday's contest in the dugout while Kyle Farmer starts at the hot corner and bats fifth against Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo.

McMahon's two-hit effort Saturday was his first multi-hit performance since he went 3-for-3 on Opening Day.

EDGE Analysis

The third baseman was a problem for Tampa pitching and should benefit from hitting behind Brenton Doyle and Ezequiel Tovar in the Colorado lineup. McMahon has hit 20-plus homers every year since 2019 -- except for the pandemic-shortened 2020 season in which he hit nine in 52 games.

McMahon has gone 7-for-19 with seven walks across nine Cactus League games.

EDGE Analysis

McMahon has maintained at least a 10 percent walk rate in three straight regular seasons, so his elevated walk rate in the spring isn't much of a surprise. While he has only two extra-base hits in the exhibition season, he has maintained at least a .165 ISO in five of his last six campaigns.

His next long ball will give the 29-year-old his fourth straight 20-homer campaign.
