Hanigan seems like a logical option to fill in for the injured Tony Wolters (concussion), Nick Groke of The Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Dustin Garneau is currently the only healthy catcher on the Rockies' 40-man roster, although Colorado does have a spot on the 40-man to add Hanigan after they designated Christhian Adames for assignment Sunday. Hanigan has been playing well during his time in the minors this season, batting .282 with three doubles in 39 at-bats, so he could be a serviceable option if he does ultimately get called up.

Hanigan was released by the Phillies on Monday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hanigan's dismissal means that the Phillies will go with prospect Andrew Knapp as their main backup at catcher behind Cameron Rupp. The 36-year-old veteran has been renowned throughout his career for his receiving skills, so it's possible another team could have interest bringing him aboard as a No. 2 catcher.

The Phillies may have been showcasing Hanigan to the Tigers for a potential trade, Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hanigan made starts at catcher on both Sunday and Tuesday in games against the Tigers, who are looking for catching depth. Hanigan is competing for the Phillies' backup catching job with Andrew Knapp, Logan Moore and Bryan Holaday. Early indications point to Knapp being the front-runner for the job, but there have also been reports that the Phillies could carry three catchers early in the season.

Hanigan signed a minor league contract with the Phillies on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training.
EDGE Analysis
The Phillies catching depth was already pretty crowded, and now Hanigan is added to the mix. He will compete with Bryan Holaday in spring training for the backup spot behind Cameron Rupp. This all but ensures that prospects Andrew Knapp and Jorge Alfaro will open the year at Triple-A.

The Red Sox declined their 2017 option on Hanigan's contract, Jon Heyman of Today's Knuckleball reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hanigan's skill at the plate drastically regressed from 2015's already-mediocre performance. Over 35 games in the majors, he recorded a .171 batting average and struck out in more than 20 percent of his at-bats. If he gets signed by another team, the 36-year-old will likely serve as a reserve option or simply provide organizational depth behind the plate.

Hanigan (ankle) will be called up to Boston and join the team when it begins a road trip in Oakland on Friday, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hanigan's presence will give Boston manager John Farrell three catchers. He probably will go back to catching knuckleballer Steven Wright, who has a 2.90 ERA with Hanigan catching. A third catcher also allows Farrell to be more aggressive in using Sandy Leon as a pinch hitter in games he doesn't start.

Hanigan (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment soon and is likely to rejoin the Red Sox when rosters expand next month, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
For now, the Red Sox are getting by Sandy Leon and Bryan Holaday -- two catchers that were completely off the radar at the start of the season. Hanigan will be a helpful contributor, who knows the staff well and is considered a good game caller.
