Buchter signed a minor-league deal with the Angels on Monday which includes an invitation to big-league camp, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

The 33-year-old lefty has 214 big-league innings under his belt and owns a strong 2.86 ERA. He posted a 2.98 ERA in 45.1 innings for Oakland last season, though his 4.96 FIP suggests his performance wasn't particularly impressive.

Buchter will become a free agent after being non-tendered by the Athletics on Monday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Buchter's 3.16 ERA and 1.60 WHIP still actually qualify as career worsts for the 32-year-old, but the fact they've been improved steadily over the last month-plus lends credence to the notion he's firmly on his way back to his solid career norms.

Buchter was charged with a blown save Wednesday at Angel Stadium after walking in a run and failing to record an out.

EDGE Analysis

Buchter came into the eighth inning with two outs and the bases loaded. His first and only batter faced was Shohei Ohtani, and unfortunately, he walked him to tie the game. The good news is that the run was charged to Liam Hendriks. The bad news is that the A's wound up losing on a walkoff double in the ninth. Buchter now owns a 4.00 ERA and 1.78 WHIP through 30 games this season.

Buchter owns a 1.42 ERA, .143 BAA and 1.11 WHIP over nine appearances since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on April 29.

Prior to being demoted to the Aviators on April 22, Buchter had generated a bloated 7.04 ERA over his first 7.2 innings of the season. The veteran southpaw got the call back up to the big leagues just eight days later, however, and he's been vastly improved in his second stint of the season with the Athletics. Buchter has allowed just one earned run in his last nine trips to the mound, which came on a solo home run he yielded to the Indians' Roberto Perez last Sunday.

Buchter agreed to a one-year, $1.4 million contract with the Athletics on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
