The Royals optioned Bergert to Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Bergert came into camp with a chance to win a spot in Kansas City's rotation, but he struggled during spring play, posting a 6.52 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB over 9.2 innings spanning four starts. His biggest issue was the long ball, as he allowed five homers. Bergert should get a chance to get back on the right track with Omaha and will likely be a candidate to be called up should the Royals need a rotation replacement at some point during the campaign.

Bergert allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk over 3.2 innings in Saturday's Cactus League loss to the Athletics. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Bergert struggled to find a rhythm, allowing runs in each of his four frames and serving up four homers, three of them by Shea Langeliers. Prior to Saturday's outing, the right-hander had allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four across six innings in his first three spring appearances. While this outing wasn't stellar, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports that the Royals are considering deploying a six-man rotation to open the regular season, which increases Bergert's chances of being part of the starting staff, with Stephen Kolek (oblique) and Bailey Falter also in the mix.

Bergert (elbow) allowed no runs on a hit and a walk with no strikeouts across one inning in Saturday's Cactus League loss to San Diego.
EDGE Analysis
Bergert made his spring debut Saturday, allowing a leadoff double and a two-out walk before retiring the side without damage in his lone inning of work. The right-hander showed promise as a rookie in 2025 before finishing the season on the injured list due to a right elbow strain, posting a 3.66 ERA and 1.26 WHIP across 19 appearances (15 starts) between San Diego and Kansas City after being dealt at the trade deadline in the Freddy Fermin deal. Bergert will compete for a spot in the Royals' deep rotation, with Noah Cameron, Stephen Kolek and Bailey Falter also in the mix.

Berger (elbow) was cleared in November to begin a throwing program, MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bergert missed the last couple weeks of the regular season with a right elbow strain, but he's fully recovered and will enter spring training without limitations, barring any setbacks. The 25-year-old posted a 3.66 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 73:35 K:BB across 76.1 innings in 2025 between the Padres and Royals and will have a chance to open the 2026 campaign in the major-league rotation.

The Royals placed Bergert on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right elbow strain.
EDGE Analysis
Bergert felt something in his pitching arm after throwing his between-starts bullpen session Wednesday and has been diagnosed with a strained elbow. There's no word as to whether he will undergo additional testing, but either way, the injury will end Bergert's season. He posted a promising 3.66 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 73:35 K:BB across 76.1 innings in 2025. If healthy, Bergert has a good chance to open the 2026 campaign in the Royals' rotation.

The Royals are expected to place Bergert on the 15-day injured list Thursday with forearm tightness, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bergert reported a problem with his forearm after throwing a bullpen session Wednesday. The 25-year-old's move to the IL will put an early end to his rookie season, giving him a 3.66 ERA and 1.26 WHIP alongside a 73:35 K:BB across 76.1 innings.

Bergert didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 8-6 loss to the Phillies, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
It's the third straight start in which Bergert issued three free passes, and his loss of control has left him with an 8.76 ERA, 2.03 WHIP and 14:9 K:BB in 12.1 innings during the skid. The Royals could get one or more of Michael Wacha (concussion), Seth Lugo (back) and Cole Ragans (shoulder) back from the IL in the next week or two, so Bergert's hold on a rotation spot may be slipping. At present however, he's scheduled to make his next start at home next weekend against the Blue Jays.

Bergert (2-2) allowed eight runs on 11 hits and three walks over 3.1 innings to take the loss Monday against Cleveland. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Despite not conceding a homer, Bergert was absolutely lit up in this 77-pitch appearance, coughing up eight runs and 11 hits -- both setting career worsts. The rookie right-hander completely unraveled in the fourth inning, when he gave up six runs on six hits before being relieved by Daniel Lynch. Thanks to this performance, Bergert's ERA ballooned from 2.61 to 3.48 across 72.1 total frames with the Royals and Padres. The 25-year-old projects for tough matchup in his next start, which is currently scheduled to come at Philadelphia this weekend.

Bergert didn't factor into the decision against the Angels on Wednesday, allowing one run on one hit and three walks while striking out six over five innings.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander was in control for most of the outing, allowing just three baserunners through five frames before exiting after issuing a walk to Zach Neto to lead off the sixth. That runner later came around to score on a Jo Adell homer, leaving Bergert with his lone earned run. Since joining the Royals, Bergert has been remarkably steady, not allowing more than two runs in any of his starts while completing at least five innings in each. Over that stretch, the 25-year-old has posted a 2.43 ERA with a 31:11 K:BB through 33.1 innings, and his next turn against Cleveland presents another favorable matchup given the Guardians' offensive struggles.

Bergert (2-1) notched the win Wednesday against the White Sox, allowing one run on six hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Bergert continues to be an effective starter with the Royals, having now pitched at least five innings while conceding two runs or fewer in five consecutive starts for his new team. The rookie right-hander also fired a season-high six frames Wednesday. With Cole Ragans (shoulder) still yet to go on a rehab assignment, Bergert should be locked in for at least another handful of turns in Kansas City's rotation. He holds a promising 2.67 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 59:26 K:BB across 64 innings in 2025, and Bergert is tentatively scheduled to face the Angels early next week.
