Torreyes was released by the Phillies on Tuesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Torreyes got into 112 games for the Phillies last season as a utility infielder but hit just .242/.286/.346. The signing of Johan Camargo has pushed him further down the organizational depth chart this season, and he evidently didn't see a path to playing time in Philadelphia even after the underperforming Bryson Stott was demoted Monday. He'll hit the open market in search of other opportunities but seems unlikely to play a major role wherever he lands.

Torreyes was reassigned to minor-league camp Monday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Torreyes went 1-for-11 with a run, an RBI, a walk and two strikeouts this spring, and he was unable to land a spot on the Opening Day roster. He appeared in 112 games for the Phillies last year, so he'll presumably be in the mix to provide utility depth at some point in 2022.

Torreyes signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Sunday that includes an invite to major-league camp, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Torreyes elected free agency after being outrighted off the Phillies' 40-man roster in November, but he's now back with the team for spring training. The 29-year-old played in 112 games during 2021 and hit .242/.286/.346 with seven home runs, 30 runs and 41 RBI in 344 plate appearances.

Torreyes elected free agency Friday after being outrighted by the Phillies.

Torreyes went 1-for-1 with a three-run home run in a 12-6 victory against Pittsburgh on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Torreyes stepped to the plate for starter Aaron Nola in the sixth-inning and launched a two-out home run to left to bring Philadelphia all the way back from a 6-0 deficit. The 29-year-old only had one at-bat this week prior to Thursday's game though he could receive more opportunities moving forward thanks to the clutch long ball.

Torreyes is not in the lineup Friday against the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
The 29-year-old finds himself on the bench for the fourth time in the past five games, as Freddy Galvis appears to have taken over as Philadelphia's primary third baseman. Torreyes is 4-for-30 through 13 games in September, while Galvis has a 1.045 OPS in 12 contests this month.

Torreyes isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Torreyes will hit the bench for the second time in three games Sunday against the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
The Phillies have started to move away from Torreyes at third base, as his .245/.289/.350 slash line is nowhere near good enough for a corner infielder. Freddy Galvis will start at the hot corner Sunday.

Torreyes will sit Friday against the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
Torreyes has been the Phillies' primary third baseman for the past month due to Alec Bohm's (wrist) struggles, but he's a very poor fit offensively for the position. His 75 wRC+, the product of a .249/.293/.356 slash line, wouldn't be good enough to start at a more important defensive position and is clearly inadequate for a corner infielder. He owns a barely better 78 wRC+ over the course of his seven-year career, so there's little reason to expect things will improve for him at the plate any time soon. Freddy Galvis, who owns a career wRC+ of 80, will start at the hot corner Friday.
