Grossman will get an extended chance to serve as the White Sox's leadoff hitter, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

He led off for the first time Sunday and went 0-for-5, but after the game, manager Pedro Grifol suggested Grossman would get more looks at the top of the order. Andrew Benintendi has served as the leadoff hitter to this point, but he hit fifth Sunday and could stick in that position.

Grossman will start in right field and bat sixth in Friday's game versus the Royals.

There's no telling exactly when the 34-year-old will join the active roster, but Getz lauded Grossman as being an accomplished hitter in the majors and emphasized his ability to play multiple outfield positions, so a move could come sooner rather than later.

Grossman was unable to land a contract throughout the offseason but will join Chicago in the final stages of spring training. Grossman's plate appearances have ticked down since injured Rangers returned to the lineup last week. He's now the short side of a platoon in left field with Carter. Grossman's made eight plate appearances over the last seven games.

Grossman is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Red Sox.

EDGE Analysis

With Adolis Garcia and Josh Jung back in the fold, Grossman's run as a semi-regular may be at an end. He should still get some starts at designated hitter and in left field, but Evan Carter looks poised to get the majority of left-field starts, especially against righties, and Mitch Garver is starting at designated hitter for the second time in the last three games.
