The Pirates made some changes to the bullpen Saturday by optioning Scahill and Wilfredo Boscan while recalling Cory Luebke and Curtis Partch. Scahill made four appearances during his most recent stint with the Pirates, pitching 5.1 scoreless innings while allowing just five total base runners. He'll head back to Triple-A for now, but his strong run with the Pirates over the past couple of weeks could earn him a recall later in the season.

Scahill surrendered a walk-off, grand-slam homer to Derek Norris on Friday. The bottom of the ninth proved to be a comedy of errors against the Padres and Scahill played a leading role. He pulled Pedro Alvarez off of first base with an errant throw on a comebacker, helping to set up the fateful frame. Pittsburgh has given the former Rockies pitcher an opportunity to throw in fairly high leverage situations, but Scahill has looked decidedly average. He possesses a higher WHIP (1.50) than he does an ERA (1.40) in 19.1 innings.
